Four Evanston Teens Charged With Garage Burglaries

An investigation into a January garage break-in led to the arrests in connection with at least two Evanston burglaries and potentially others in the North Shore

have charged four Evanston teenagers in connection with a January garage burglary in which $20,000 worth of items were taken. Three of them were subsequently charged in connection with a second residential burglary last month.

The investigation began after the Jan. 15 garage break-in in the 1000 block of Michigan Avenue, police said. Items taking in that burglary included jewelry, computers, cameras and a guitar.

An Evanston detective learned that a laptop and guitar that were taken from the garage were sold to Cash Convertors in Niles. The detective was able to track down the seller and arrest him, according to police.

Police then learned of three other suspects. All four teens were charged with one count of residential burglary in connection with that incident.

The accused are: Shawn Wallace, 19; Ethan Strong, 18; Jordan Reid, 19; and Mathew May, 17.

Police recovered several items from the Jan. 15 burglary, and additional found two motor scooters from a Feb. 17 garage break-in in the 2500 block of Lincoln Ave. Strong, May and Reid were all charged with an additional count of burglary in connection with that second break-in, police said.

Police also recovered other items from one of the teen’s vehicles that linked them to residential burglaries in Deerfield and Highland Park over the past month. Evanston police alerted those policed departments.
