Evanston should be outraged at this violent crime, but Evanston's non-violent citizenry remains quiet.

One would think that these robbers would read something and lerarn that most of their ilk are caught and incarcerated and that one felony conviction will mark them for life. But either they don't care or are too stupid to realize what they are doing to themselves. The Evanston Police are among the best in the country but try as they may, cannot solve all the community social problems. The parents and the churches will have to do that.

We are outraged by these crimes. And these stupid punks always like to talk about their crimes. They will be caught. If you see something that seems out of place, always call 911.

Dick...the Repugs are coming for your Medicare, yet you remain quiet.

I am quite sick and tired of the PC filter - or censorship, if you will, on all these Evanston crime stories when it comes to the race of the suspects vis a vis the race of the victims. In all of the recent incidents, the suspects were black males and the victims white - males and females. That is a definite trend - newsworthy in a real world context, but not in Evanston PC fantasyland. And a recent report in another EV paper on a neighborhood email warning of gangs preying on kids in North EV conveniently omitted any racial descriptions.

"The truth shall set you free." Thank you Nancy for standing up and saying what everybody already knows and everybody is thinking.

DL, thank you for making these comments political. But since you have, I guess I have a license to discuss politics now. (Wink, wink.) The Ryan Plan has no effect on anyone 55 and older. For those under 55, the Medicare option will be available to all, but will include other options. The purpose of the Ryan Plan is to save Medicare. The Democrat Plan for Medicare is absolutely no change, except for shifting funding from Medicare to Obamacare. In short, the Democrat Plan is to let Medicare to implode and go bankrupt. Yep, that's right. So the choice is between saving Medicare per the Republican Plan or letting Medicare go bankrupt per the Democrat Plan. I guess if I was worried about Medicare, I'd vote for the Republican Plan to save Medicare. However, since I've taken very good care of myself over the last 40 years, it doesn't really make a whole lot of difference to me. I paid for my recent cancer surgery out of my own pocket. Doctors love it when you pay them in cash within 5 minutes of the completion of surgery. Imagine how much we all could save if doctors didn't have to play games with a third party in order to get paid? Catastrophic (high deductible) insurance is the answer to the cost problem. That would mean that most people would never have any claims for insurance companies to pay. No claims, no paperwork, reduced costs. Bravo! And I'm just a dumb conservative, but I figured that out. Vote Republican for "Real Hope and Change".

Richard - get a life. I'm tired of your cynical, one-sided comments. Nancy - you probably already figured out the answer so why try and stir things up? It's a socioeconomic issue and it stems from systemic racism. And yeah, there are some people that are just going to commit crimes without any good reason (in every race). I've got mixed feelings about Evanston (I live here now but grew up in Chicago), but it is where I live and work and I try to make the best of it. All the people that hate Evanston so much should stop coming onto an Evanston news site if they hate it so much. Does that make sense?

Annie, that's a good thing to remember. I was talking to a reader yesterday who said she saw a car driving down her street late at night with no lights on last year and called the police. Turns out the people in the car were trying to rob vehicles parked on her street. If you see something that seems out of place, definitely make that call.

What difference does it make that the criminals are black and the victims white? Does that somehow make it worse than if the victims were black and the criminals white? The last time I was mugged it was by some white crack head..so what? The problem is the constant attacks, not the race of the people involved.

I am still trying to figure out how this happened? I take that stop everyday and there are a number of people who get off on the EL @ 6:00. There are people walking dogs, kids playing, and working on gardens. I hope the Police step up patrols in South Evanston. It might be time to get out of the cars and step up foot patrols. Be more of a prolonged presence, block-by-block. Not just drive by in a car, only to be out of the area in 30 seconds.

Frank: "I'm tired of your cynical, one-sided comments." Frank, I'm tired of liberal kooks and their one-sided comments, but I support their right to express themselves. (I even support your right to criticize me.) In fact, I was so tired of the liberal kooks in Evanston that I moved to "red neck" Florida where liberal kooks are few and far between. It's wonderful not to be around people like you.

LDDL: "What difference does it make that the criminals are black and the victims white?" It makes a difference because it appears, at least to me, that the number of attacks by blacks on whites and Asians is increasing. The attacks of gangs of black teen-agers on whites in downtown Chicago is an example. In February (2012), two black teen-agers in Kansas City poured gasoline over a white boy about 12 years old and then lit him on fire. Since Obama was elected, it appears that racial division have gotten worse, not better. It's time to speak the truth about what's going on. Trying to sweep this under the rug isn't the way to solve the problem-let's admit there is a problem and address it.
LeilaDDL August 23, 2012 at 12:39 PM
I'm not going to get into a back and fort about who commits more acts of violence, because it's stupid, and frankly racist. My best friend was raped and beaten by a white man 2 years ago, our condo in the city was broken into by 2 white people in 2008...and let's not forget Aurora, CO, or who gunned down numerous innocent people in Arizona.
