Fourth Armed Robbery In 3 Days Hits Evanston

Police are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery that took place around 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at the South Boulevard CTA station.

A robber displayed what appeared to be a gun, then struck a 31-year-old man in the head and stole his cell phone at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at the South Boulevard CTA station, according to . 

The incident is the fourth armed robbery reported within the last three days in Evanston. Early Saturday morning, a man told police at Foster Street and Orrington Avenue. Around 1 a.m. Sunday, three Northwestern University students reported at Foster and Pratt Court.

Police are have yet to charge anyone in the first two incidents, but , which took place late Sunday night. In that incident, an Evanston man reported that a Chicago man arranged to meet him to buy the iPad he bought on Craigslist. The Chicago man tried to run away with the iPad, and cut the Evanston man several times when he tried to wrestle it back, according to police.

In Monday’s armed robbery, the 31-year-old victim said he was leaving the el and walking toward Oakton Street and Callan Avenue when a teenager approached him, displayed what appeared to be a black handgun and demanded his cell phone, according to police. The two struggled over the phone, until the teenager hit the man in the head with the weapon and took his phone.

The 31-year-old man told police he believed the gun was “a fake gun,” and ran after the teenager, but was unable to catch him. He was treated for his injuries at .

Police described the suspect as a black man between the ages of 16 to 18, approximately 5’10” to 6’0” tall, weighing 140 pounds and wearing a black shirt with white writing and khaki pants.
