A Denver Boot Gets Pinched and Lots of Library-Related Theft

A look at unusual crimes in our Patch area this week.

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A man stole John Wayne DVDs from the Evanston Public Library.

A Bannockburn police officer heard a loud explosion and saw a large plume of smoke near a large moving truck. The officer investigated and saw several wrappers of exploded fireworks. Police said the officer then searched the 45-year-old Ohio man’s truck and found cannabis seed and a black plastic bag with a clear plastic bag inside containing a leafy substance, according to the report.

A woman stole a Denver boot—a device often used by municipal governments to immobilize cars with unpaid parking tickets—from a car parked in Evanston.

About $1,000 in cash, several credit and identification cards and The Last Man book on CD were stolen from a car parked at Centennial Pool in Wilmette. The book on CD was borrowed from Wilmette Public Library.

Another heinous crime by Jack the Mulcher

A Skokie condo association member reported that someone cut the building’s hose. The woman told police she believes a condo occupant caused the damage.

The Toy Shoppe claw machine in Niles was broken into and $308.50 stolen.
