Police arrested a 23-year-old Evanston man after they say he fired several rounds from a semi-automatic gun at a car with multiple passengers last Wednesday.
James W. Johnson, 23, of the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm at a motor vehicle, a felony, according to police.
Police say they were called to the intersection of Simpson Street and Darrow Avenue around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, to investigate a report of shots fired. They learned that someone riding in a Chevy Blazer yelled at Johnson as he was walking down the street, and he responded by pulling out a gun and firing at the car, according to police.

The occupants of the car did not cooperate with police, but an intern with the department was able to identify Johnson as the man who shot at the car, police said. They also obtained a statement from Johnson, “admitting his involvement in the shooting,” according to police.
Officers have not yet located the handgun involved in the incident, which they believe was a .380 caliber semi-automatic.
