Man Arrested for Rape of 19-Year-Old Monday Afternoon

The man allegedly followed the woman off the bus and pushed her between two buildings on Dewey Ave. as she walked home.

arrested a Chicago man yesterday for allegedly raping a 19-year-old Evanston woman after she got off the bus and was walking home in the afternoon.

According to police, the woman got off the bus at Emerson and Dodge avenues shortly before 2 p.m. yesterday and was walking toward home. The accused, Marlow S. Land, 24, got off the same bus and followed the woman.

While in the 1900 block of Dewey Avenue, Land allegedly “pulled her between two houses then slamming her to the ground,” the police release said. He then allegedly raped her.

The woman called police from the nearby and provided a detailed description of her assailant. Police said they located a man who matched the woman’s description a short time later at 1619 Church St., who turned out to be Land.

Police said Land admitted to committing the sexual assault. He had come to Evanston that day to visit a friend, police said.

Land, who lives in the 200 block of North Latrobe, is facing three counts of criminal sexual assault with a court date of April 5. He has previous arrests but nothing related to sex crimes, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott.

The woman was examined at a hospital and released, with no serious physical injuries, police said.
