Man Arrested in Stabbing Homicide Case

Police have arrested an Evanston man and charged him with two counts of first degree murder.

Evanston police arrested Evanston resident Michael Anderson and charged him with two counts of first degree murder in  that killed 26-year-old .

Branch was at Anderson's house Tuesday night when the two were drinking and got into an argument, police said, that ended with Branch being stabbed four times in the leg. Branch lost a substantial amount of blood due to the wounds and later died at a local hospital.

Cathy Key, Branch's mother, said that the two men were acquaintances but she did not approve of her son hanging out with Anderson.

"I was trying to help him come to the realization that he needed to be careful with who he hung out with, in particular the young man whose house he was at [the night he was stabbed]," Key recently told Evanston Patch.

Anderson's bond has been set at $2 million. His court date is Jan. 11 at 9 a.m.
