Man Bites Guard and a Tree Killer

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A Winnetka resident on Sheridan Road reported that someone cut the electrical wires for an in-ground sprinkler system and sprayed an unknown chemical on pine trees. The trees died.

An Aurora man was charged with two counts of battery after an altercation with family members at Rivers Casino in Des Plaines. As police walked him to the squad car, according to the report, he spit in one of the officer’s face. Police said he had earlier bitten a security guard’s shoulder.

A Northfield resident heard a loud bang outside his home and went out to investigate. He saw a car drive away at a high rate of speed and discovered that his neighbor's mailbox had been damaged by a blunt object. The next day another resident reported that four of his neighbors had similarly damaged mailboxes. The value for each mailbox was approximately $100.

A Niles woman told police that the manager of an apartment building was upset with the fact that children were playing with a ball in the yard. Police said he was upset because the ball disturbed newly-planted trees. The man stabbed the ball, which caused it to deflate.

Police told the man that any similar actions in the future would be cause for arrest.
