Man Charged in Bank of America Robbery Case

Police used a GPS device to find the 50-year-old Michigan man.

A 50-year-old man from Michigan has been charged after police say he robbed the Bank of America branch on Chicago Avenue in Evanston.

Lawrence M. Brown was charged with one felony count of bank robbery, according to a statement from the FBI.

The FBI said Brown entered the bank and handed the teller a note announcing a robbery and verbally demanded cash from her drawer. The teller gave him nearly $4,000 and he fled the bank. There was no weapon shown in the incident and there were no reported injuries, police said.

The FBI said a GPS tracking device was included in the money taken during the theft, and local and Chicago police officers tracked the GPS to find Brown.

Brown was ordered to be held without bond.
