Man Charged with Attempted Armed Robbery of Evanston Barber Shop

Police say the man had a loaded handgun and mask that he used to try to rob an Emerson Street shop.

A Skokie man has been charged with attempted armed robbery of an Evanston barber shop Friday morning, police said Saturday.

Evanston police said they received a call around 10 a.m. Friday of a possible robbery in progress at Supreme Image barber shop in the 1600 block of Emerson Street. They learned that a man wearing a mask and gloves had tried to enter the shop but ran away before police arrived. A security door that requires a buzzer to enter prevented the man from carrying out the robbery, police said.

A description of the subject was broadcast to officers, and an officer located a subject matching the description who was changing clothes in the 1400 block of Church Street, police said. The officer detained the man, who was identified as Devin A. Strong, 36, of the 3500 block of Church St. in Skokie.
