Incidents were reported by the Evanston Police Department Dec. 31.

Criminal sexual assault of a child-predatory

Michael W. Bolda Jr, 28, of Tinley Park, was arrested Dec. 30 on charges of criminal sexual assault of a child-predatory. According to Evanston police, he knows the victim’s mother.

Burglary

Four males stole seven bags of oranges and nine bags of Cheerios from a school in the 1400 block of Maple around 6:30 p.m. Dec. 27 by entering through an unlocked window.

Dear Patch: When you report on sexual assaults against children, can you please state whether the victim was male or female? That is important information for families and other members of the community, and I cannot imagine any editorial policy that would justify the omission. Thank you.

@Shep Ellis: Yes, in custody on this case. But 1) This person may be released at some point; and 2) I am not just referring to reporting on this one incident. It should be journalistic policy to report on the nature of these sorts of crimes more clearly.

The suspect was released on bond within hours of his arrest and is free until his court date. I totally agree that more details should be available to the public for safety reasons!

Was there sufficient information released when first reported in the official statement from EPD to the media? Ps my bad! I forgot how the judicial system works!
