Man Hospitalized After Apartment Fire On Noyes

A 56-year-old Evanston man sustained first and second degree burns and smoke inhalation following a fire at 730 Noyes Street, a three-story apartment complex in Evanston.

One man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a fire broke out in an apartment complex at 730 Noyes St. late Sunday night, according to a press release from the Evanston Fire Department. 

Fire engines were dispatched to the three-story, residential courtyard building at approximately 11:24 p.m. Sunday, April 7, according to the release. They saw smoke coming from a second floor apartment and forced entry into the unit, where there was “heavy fire and smoke conditions.”

Firefighters found a 56-year-old man inside the unit that was on fire. He sustained first and second degree burns and smoke inhalation, and was given advanced life support care before being transported to Evanston NorthShore Hospital, according to the release.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the apartment where it originated, and extinguished the blaze quickly, according to the release. There was some water damage to the unit below the one where the fire broke out, and Red Cross officials helped the resident find temporary housing. 

As of Monday morning, Evanston Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl said that firefighters were still investigating the cause of the fire. The department estimates that the blaze caused approximately $150,000 in damage to the unit where the fire broke out and the one below it.
