Meat Locker Break-In, Tree Vandalism and Lawn Chair High Jinks

A look at unusual crime in our Patch region.

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

OMG PD is on vacation this week. So we're taking a look back at some of our favorite odd crimes of the past few months.

You had me at hello

A man was assaulted after saying hi to his friend at a Skokie bar. According to police, the man said hello to his friend but was punched in the face and knocked down. He told police he is unsure why his friend attacked him.

The aftermath of a great Ent party

A large amount of grass clippings and small tree branches were found in a Wilmette hot tub. The damage is estimated at $200.

Judge decides a lifetime of the willies a fitting punishment

Someone broke into the Glencoe Public Works facility and cut the lock on the large freezer-shed that public works uses to store deceased animals. Glencoe keeps dead animals like road kill frozen in the shed until they’re picked up and properly disposed of.  Police have yet to find the attempted burglar.

Kiddie pool and lawn chairs seek treatment for survivors' guilt

Two tiki torches worth about $140 were removed from a Northbrook house.

Police responded to a burglary at Skokie storage facility. According to the report, a toilet brush holder, a DVD of the television show Scrubs and other items were reported missing.

An immature peach tree and a small cherry tree were cut down from a Wilmette home. The loss was estimated at $100.

They made him an odor he couldn't refuse

A Skokie man found a dead skunk in a plastic bag hanging on a plant holder next to his home’s entrance. At first, he thought nothing of it and called animal control. Later that day, the man found another dead skunk in a plastic bag hanging in the same location. The man, baffled by the incident, told police he doesn’t know who would do this to him.

Laissez chair

There is an element inherent in the general population that is mean/destructive/and simply stupid. The above issues are small representations of that larger and I have to think growing part of society which simply wants to destroy anything they can...... We have become way too permissive in tolerating aberrational behavior. For instance graffiti in chicago which is rampant and costs millions just to clean up..... Public punishments would go along way in reining in this type behavior! Public cannings in Daley Plaza for offenders .....political correctness of course prohibits this. But. Someday. People will want action to make society safe!

This item struck my interest: --------------------- Laissez chair Two folding chairs left in Northbrook as placeholders for the 4th of July parade were stolen ---------------- If this is just now hitting the news, it must mean that those Northbrookians want to get a nine month headstart on parade viewing.

Mr Osburn, if you look at the top of the page it states that this compilation of crimes is a look back at Patch's favorites. On that note, I'd like yo suggest to Patch that if they have nothing new in the crime arena to report, it is better to not report any at all. Patch is already developing a reputation as a doom & gloom news source, that seems to over report the negative and bad news. In favor of more upbeat stories they could focus on. This recap of 6 month or older crimes does not help to eliminate that image. You have a chance to better yourselves here Patch. Take it.

That was supposed to be "to suggest to Patch".

"Public cannings in Daley Plaza for offenders .....political correctness of course prohibits this." Sure, that and 8th amendment.

Any one who finds the need to comment & ponder @ these crimes is himself, stupid & dumb.

Where does that leave you, "Mrs. H," self-appointed board censor? You should be banned for using annoying ampersands instead of "and".
