New Canine Officer, Police Dog Join Evanston Force

Police Canine Officer Anthony Sosa and his canine companion, "Rony," are ready to hit the streets in Evanston.

A new canine officer and his German Shepard companion are the newest additions to the Evanston Police Department.

Officer Anthony Sosa, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who has worked with the department for seven years, was selected after an extensive application and interview process, according to a release from the police department.

Sosa and his partner, Rony, trained for six weeks together in Sharpsville, PA, before going on duty in Evanston. Rony is two years old and comes from Slovakia. He can detect narcotics and track while on patrol, according to police.

Community groups who want to meet the Sosa and Rony at a block party or event are encouraged to contact the Evanston Police Department’s Community Strategies Office at (847) 866-5018.

Welcome, Officer Sosa and your K-9 companion, we are happy to see you are on OUR side! Question for you... has the Dog been trained to also seek the smell of Gun Powder Residue in a search for firearms?
