The Evanston Fire Department responded to a garage fire at 5:50 a.m. Friday on the 900 block of Grey Street.
The homeowner dialed 911 and then used a home fire extinguisher to keep the fire in check until firefighters arrived.
Firemen then put out the blaze with no damage to the interior of the garage, the EFD said. There were no injuries, but the damage is estimated at $5,000.

Evanston Fire Department Spokesman Tom Janetske said that an investigation revealed that a short in electrical wiring started the fire.
