North Shore DUI Roundup: Nov 16-22 Edition

A look at DUI arrests reported on North Shore Patch sites in the past week.

LAKE FOREST

Omar A. Gonzalez, 33, of Zion, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage and driving without insurance at 3:58 a.m. Nov. 16 on Route 41 at Old Elm Road, Lake Forest police reported. His court date is Dec. 10 at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.

Scott A. Krause, 19, of Lake Bluff, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, consumption of alcohol by a minor, illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at 10:39 p.m. Nov. 8 on Bowling Green at West Fork, where Krause drove his vehicle into a tree, Lake Forest police reported. Police said he had an open bottle of whiskey and a case of beer in the vehicle. He was released on a $3,000 bond and given a Dec. 10 court date at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.

MORTON GROVE

Mary Glabowicz, 55, of Libertyville, was stopped for traffic violations in the 8900 block of Central and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Morton Grove police.  Court date is scheduled for 12/12/13.

NILES

Bassam Constantin, 37, of Des Plaines had his wife and two children in the car when he was charged with DUI Nov. 7 just after 2:45 a.m., according to a Niles police report.  Niles police officer stopped him for speeding, crossing over a lane line, failing to stop at a red light and failing to use a turn signal, according to the report. His court date is Dec. 20.

Joseph Motroni, 19, of Park Ridge, was charged with DUI, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Failure to Give Aid or Information Nov. 8 at 4 a.m. A witness told police he rear-ended her in a hit-and-run crash at Oakton and Prospect, then fled westbound until Park Ridge police stopped him, according to the report. Niles police said his passenger told police they had been drinking beer at a friend's house. His court date is Dec. 20.

EVANSTON

Kelli C. Rogers, 27, of the 2200 block of Crain Street in Evanston, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 4:57 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the 2800 block of Golf, police reported.

Kim Horton, 55, of the 600 block of Wesley Avenue in Evanston, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 7:37 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, police reported.

GLENVIEW

Anastasios Skallas, 40, of the 2500 block of Osage Drive in Glenview, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage at 3:01 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in the 3000 block of East Lake Avenue, police reported.

Matthew Murphy, 38, of the 4900 block of Paddock Drive in Keller, TX, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 3:10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in the 1500 block of Waukegan Road, police reported.

HIGHLAND PARK

Marius Mannix, 23, of Chicago was arrested Sunday and charged with driving under the influence, possession of cannabis and one headlight illuminated  after being stopped by police near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Chicago Avenue, according to Highland Park Police reports. He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court on Dec. 6 in Waukegan.

Jeffrey Swift, 45, of Round Lake Beach was arrested Sunday and charged with driving under the influence, uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage after being stopped by police in the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road, according to Highland Park Police reports. He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court on Dec. 6 in Waukegan.

David Cook, 53, of Milwaukee was stopped by Highland Park Police Oct. 11 in the 1600 block of Skokie Valley Road for improper lane usage, according to Deputy Highland Park Police Chief George Pfutzenreuter. After a further investigation, he was arrested for driving under the influence.

Cook is charged with a Class X felony because it is the sixth time he was stopped for the same offense, according to Lake County State’s Attorney Communication Director Cynthia Vargas. If convicted, Cook faces between six and 30 years in prison with no possibility for probation. He is also charged with aggravated driving with a suspended license, a Class 4 Felony. He will be arraigned Friday in Lake County Criminal Court in Waukegan at which time he will have the opportunity to plead not guilty or guilty.

Angel Avila-Gonzalez, 35, of Highwood was stopped by Highland Park Nov. 3 in the 1900 block of Sheridan Road for improper lane usage, according to Pfutzenreuter. After a further investigation, he was arrested for driving under the influence.

Avila-Gonzalez was indicted by the Grand Jury for aggravated driving under the influence, a Class 2 Felony, and aggravated driving with a suspended license, a Class 4 Felony. He faces between four and 10 years in jail if convicted. He will be arraigned Friday in Lake County Criminal Court in Waukegan at which time he will have the opportunity to plead not guilty or guilty.
