Northwestern Looks at Lab-Access Policy Following Student's Suicide

A Northwestern University sophomore committed suicide in early May in a school lab, the Daily Northwestern reported.

Northwestern University administrators are taking a look at the school’s policies regarding lab access after a 20-year-old Northwestern sophomore committed suicide on May 5 in a lab on campus, the Daily Northwestern reported.

Dmitri Teplov, a New York native who was studying in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, was found dead in Pancoe Hall, at 2200 Campus Dr., according to an official university e-mail sent to students and staff.

Jay Walsh, vice president for research at the university, said Teplov’s death spurred the university to take a closer look at the decentralized system where lab access is mainly controlled by faculty members and is different within schools and departments, the Daily Northwestern reported.  For the full story, visit: DailyNorthwestern.com.
