Oakton Home Being Renovated Catches Fire

The blaze was confined to the kitchen and no one was injured.

The following is from the Evanston Fire Department:

At approximately 5 a.m. today, June 18, Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services fire companies were dispatched to a house fire at a brick, single-family home at 1919 Oakton St.

First arriving companies saw fire showing from the kitchen window on the east side of the structure. A coordinated fire attack, including ventilation and search operations, ensued. The fire was confined to the kitchen area and was extinguished. The house, which was being renovated, was empty.

The Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries are reported.
