Officer on Leave While EPD Investigates Use of Force

Evanston police are investigating an incident that left a theft suspect in the hospital with head injuries.

The Evanston Police Department has placed an officer on administrative leave while its professional standard’s unit looks into an incident that left a theft suspect in the hospital, according to Evanston Now.

The officer was investigating a retail theft report at Evanston Plaza and chased a suspect about a mile and a half into Skokie, the article says. The suspect had two “significant” head injuries, according to an article in the Evanston Review.

The department reviews all use of force incidents when there is an incapacitating injury, the Evanston Review article states.
