Man Arrested With Gun During Traffic Stop

Tyrone E. Gibbs, 21, of Evanston, was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, after police found a gun during a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Foster Street. There were several occupants in the car, and Gibbs was charged because he was closest to the gun, according to police.

An employee at the Whole Foods in downtown Evanston told police that he was outside smoking on break when he was approached by an unknown person at the northwest corner of Chicago Avenue and Church Street around 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 19. According to the report, the offender pulled out a pistol from his waistband and told the victim, "You should die."

The victim told police that the man put the pistol back in his waistband and walked away eastbound on Church Street without saying anything else. Police said there were no other witnesses, and the event was not captured on surveillance video.

The suspect was described as a white male, about 5-foot-7 and 135-pounds, and was wearing glasses, a black coat and a black backpack, police said.

Stolen parking meter

A parking meter was "dug up from the ground" and stolen from the 1700 block of Oak Avenue on April 19. The report stated that it was a "Duncan Industries single head parking meter." The theft was estimated to be more than $500.

No further information was provided.

Stolen wallet

A woman reported her wallet stolen after visiting a church in the 1600 block of Lincoln Street on April 20.

Robbery

A man walked up to a person and stole his or her cell phone from their hand at the intersection of Sheridan Road and Foster Street on April 20 around 9:44 a.m.

Stolen bike rack

A bike rack and two bicycles were reported stolen in the 500 block of Church Street on April 21.

Simple battery

A person reported being hit by an unknown offender in the 2100 block of Green Bay Road on April 18 around 2:30 a.m.

Construction site burglary

A 500-foot rope, carabineer and block pulley were reported stolen from a construction site in the 200 block of Chicago Avenue on April 15.

Booze stolen from store

A bottle of alcohol was reported stolen from a retail store in the 2400 block of Main Street on April 19.

Graffiti

Police observed graffiti in the 1000 block of Greenleaf Street on April 15.

Stolen license plate

A person reported his or her license plate stolen from the 100 block of Custer Avenue on April 19.

Zero tolerance

Sade Kierra Aiken, 20, of Evanston, was charged with underage drinking on April 21. The offender was charged in the 800 block of Mulford Street around 5 a.m.

DUI

Ralph Handelman, 45, of Evanston, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on April 21. The offender was arrested in the 700 block of Brummel Street around 2:30 a.m., police said.

Retail theft

Dwayne Scott, 19, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft on April 19. Scott was arrested in the 2400 block of Main Street around 2:50 p.m.
