Man Dies in Mid-Morning Shooting on McCormick

Pizza Delivery Turns Criminal, Cab Fare Turns Violent

A look at weird crimes in the northern Chicago suburbs.

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

Rum brazen

A burglar entered an unlocked Evanston home and stole diamond earrings, a video camera, credit cards and dark Bacardi rum.

Large pepper-oh-no!

A pizza delivery boy reported his car stolen after delivering a pizza in Skokie. According to the report, the employee left his car running while delivering a pizza. When he returned, he saw that his vehicle was gone.

Nerd thief giggles all the way to nerd fence

Someone stole a laptop computer, a Garmin GPS, Targus backpack, chess set and TI calculator from a car parked in Evanston.

How does senior center deal with possible leaks? Depends.

Police responded to a theft at a Skokie senior center where six water sprinkler caps/plugs were missing from the building.

Terrible exit strategy

A cab driver picked up a Riverwoods man in Chicago who said to take him to Deerfield, then fell asleep. After reaching Deerfield, police said the driver twice woke up the man to ask for further directions, and the man asked to exit the cab there. When the driver asked for the $76.45 fare, the man said, according to police, “So it’s going to be like that,” and began to hit the driver about the face while still in the cab and tried to gouge his eyes.

The driver was able to unlock his seatbelt and pull the man from the cab. He then drove away, called police and the man followed on foot. Police found the man and arrested him for battery and theft of services.

They're probably the same people who cried about the sounding board in the news letters on the Metra. I thought they were hysterical! Unfortunately, it's people with no sense of humor, that read stuff like this, that the rest of us find funny, complain about. Why does everything have to be so serious all the time? Have those of you that are too serious and uptight tried to pull that lump of coal out of you know where to see if it's a diamond yet? Maybe learn how to have fun again and not be so serious all the time. :)

well stated Katie---what is it Readers Digest says---"Laughter is the best medicine" or something like that---I concur---we need to lighten up and laugh during difficult times---even with sensitive subjects sometimes...and do we really need to give a crud over poor grammar and typo's when reading and writing posts on Patch or related online formats---NO...if it's Pulitzer prize worthy writing you want, it's probably best to look elsewhere
