Police Arrest Chicago Teen in iPhone Robbery

A 17-year-old from Chicago was arrested and charged in one of three robberies that took place in Evanston between Saturday, Sept. 8, and Sunday, Sept. 9.

Evanston police are investigating three robberies that took place this weekend, and have arrested and charged a suspect in one of them. 

Jamal M. Dumas, 17, of the 4800 block of North Francisco Avenue in Chicago, was charged with one count of robbery, in connection with an incident that took place during the evening of Sunday, Sept. 9.

Around 9:50 p.m., Evanston police responded to the intersection of Church Street and Ridge Avenue after several 9-11 callers reported that a woman was screaming in the area. Officers found a 22-year-old woman who told police that a man had just stolen her iPhone. Police obtained a description of the suspect and stopped Dumas at the Davis Street CTA station, where they found the woman’s iPhone in his backpack.

Police are still searching for suspects in two other robberies that took place this weekend, both involving weapons.
