Police Arrest Robber at CTA Station

The incident occurred Tuesday morning.

From the Evanston Police Department:

On Feb. 15, at approximately 11:25 a.m. Evanston police responded to 333 Howard Evanston, Illinois, Robby’s Communications, referencing a report of an armed robbery. While officers were responding, Evanston police dispatch broadcast an updated description of the offender. Evanston police units proceeded into the area conducting a canvas. As a result of this canvas officers learned that the offender might have boarded a south bound CTA train leaving from the Howard St. station. Evanston police then coordinated with Chicago police and CTA officials to have the train detained at the Chicago Thorndale CTA station.

Evanston and Chicago police then responded to the Thorndale CTA station and conducted a search of the train. It was during this search that officers located a subject matching the offenders’ description. Evanston police placed this subject in custody searched him and recovered 410.00 in cash. This suspect was then transported back to the scene for further investigation, which subsequently resulted in his identification as the offender

Further investigation determined that the offender identified as Danny Wicker, entered Robby’s Communications asked the clerk some questions and then left the store. A short time later Wicker reentered the store, approached the sales clerk having his hand in his coat pocket and implied that he had a gun. Wicker then ordered the sales clerk to open the cash register, and then lead her to the back of the store ordering her to stay in the bathroom. Wicker then removed all monies from the cash register and left the store. Shortly thereafter the sales clerk notified police, which subsequently lead to the arrest of Wicker. 

Evanston police detectives continuing this investigation, contacted the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, informing them of all the pertinent facts in this case. As a result Wicker was charged with one felony count of aggravated robbery.

His court date has been set for Feb. 23.
