Police Blotter April 1: Two Men Caught Stealing at Dominick's

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Theft

An Evanston man was allegedly caught stealing a bottle of vodka Thursday evening at Dominick's. Thomas L. Bloss, 52, was arrested and charged with retail theft at 5:24 p.m. on March 31 on the 1900 block of Dempster Street. Police said the security guard caught Bloss on camera stuffing a fifth of Vitali vodka worth $14 into his coat before walking out of the store. He was detained at the store exit without incident. His court date is set for April 21.

Later on Thursday night, another Evanston man was allegedly caught stealing a bottle of gin and a bottle of baby formula from the same Dominick's. Jack T. Butler, 19, was arrested and charged with retail theft at 8:20 p.m. on March 31 on the 1900 block of Dempster Street. Police said he was caught on camera stuffing Enfamil in his trousers and then a half gallon bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin into his coat. He was also detained at the exit without incident by security until police arrived. His court date is set for April 21.

A man and woman came into a business on the 1000 block of Davis Street, begging for money and asking to use the toilet. Before they left, they stole a maroon cell phone at 6:30 p.m. on March 29. The man wore a red shirt and black pants. The woman wore a red jacket and black pants. Both of them were white.

A flash drive, a green and black zebra-striped wallet, a school ID, a pink and purple Blackberry Curve cell phone and a North Face jacket were all found stolen from an unlocked locker at Evanston Township High School on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue at 1 p.m. on March 31.

A 13-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with retail theft at 6:45 p.m. on March 31 at Target on the 2200 block of Howard Street.

 

Battery

Darien L. Marquez-Connerly, 19, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with battery at 4:07 p.m. on March 31 on the 1700 block of Brown Avenue. His court date is set for April 28.

 

Burglary

A purple and silver Trek bicycle was stolen from a garage on the 2100 block of Maple Avenue between 9 p.m. on March 30 and 9 a.m. on March 31.

 

Driving under the Influence

Roberto C. Cruz, 35, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 2:12 a.m. on March 31 as he left Evanston on the 3600 block of Oakton Street in Skokie. His court date is set for May 24.

Jeff Rander, 58, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 9:20 p.m. on March 30 on the 2100 block of Darrow Avenue. His court date is set for April 8.

 

Driving without a License

Marcial Garcia, 45, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:05 p.m. on March 30 on the 2100 block of Oakton Street. His court date is set for April 28.

Francisco Mariscal, 45, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:51 p.m. on March 29 on the 1800 block of Main Street. His court date is set for May 5.

Najee S. Muhammedbey, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:10 a.m. on April 1. A court date is set for April 28.

Camichael O. Nation, 20, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:49 p.m. on March 30 on the 1900 block of Chruch Street. His court date is set for May 5.

Muhammad I. Thomas, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:28 p.m. on March 30 on the 600 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for May 5.

 

Graffiti

Someone sprayed purple paint on the sidewalk on the 100 block of South Boulevard on March 31.
