Police Blotter April 11: Man Robbed at Gunpoint South of High School, More

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

A man was robbed Saturday night while he walked through an alley on the 2000 block of Lake Street, on the south side of Evanston Township High School. He told police he was approached at 11 p.m. by two black men, both about 6-foot tall. One of the men pulled out a gun and demanded his property before firing a shot into the air. The victim gave them $10 cash and his T-Mobile My Touch cell phone. They fled the scene in an old maroon Buick. The victim left the scene and went to the 1800 block of Emerson Street before calling police about half an hour later.

Disorderly Conduct

An intoxicated man was arrested after police said he tried to steal a laptop computer from a taxicab outside the Best Western on Sherman Avenue on Thursday night. Edward D. Wagner, 43, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 11:45 p.m. on April 7. Police said a woman rode the cab to Best Western, where she was staying, but she did not have enough cash to pay the fare. The cab driver had her leave the computer in the back of the taxi while she ran into the hotel to get some money. Before she could come back, police said Wagner barged into the cab, but was asked to leave. He then took the computer. The woman came out at this time and demanded he give it back. Wagner started yelling obscenities at her, but he gave her back the laptop before running south and east from the scene. Police picked him up on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for April 25.

 

Assault

A known offender whipped out his handgun and made threats against a man at 8:30 p.m. on April 9 on the 2400 block of Dempster Street.

A juvenile was threatened in a park on the 700 block of Reba Place at 7 p.m. on April 9.

Two juveniles were fighting on the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue at 5:35 p.m. on April 10. When a man tried to break up the fight, he was beaten down by the crowd.

A known offender cut someone's face with a sharp object during an argument at 8:27 p.m. on April 10 on the 1800 block of Brown Avenue.

 

Vandalism

The windows of a 1993 Buick were smashed out and its tires were slashed between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. on April 10 on the corner of Barton Avenue and Harvard Terrace.

A known offender slashed the tires of a 1996 Toyota while it was parked on the street on the 1200 block of Dewey Avenue between 8 p.m. on April 8 and 11:05 a.m. on April 9.

A group of men passed by a 2002 Honda and kicked the car, causing the passenger's side mirror to break at 1:22 a.m. on April 10 on the 1900 block of Sherman Avenue.

Brandon K. Jewett II, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property after allegedly breaking a window during a domestic dispute at 10:45 p.m. on April 7 on the 1300 block of McDaniel Avenue. His court date is set for April 13.

 

Burglary

Someone broke a window out on a 2001 Honda and stole cash from inside the car between 6:30 p.m. on April 8 and 6 a.m. on April 9 on the 500 block of Sherman Avenue.

Someone cut away at a wooden fence and then stole a metal radiator between 1 p.m. on April 8 and 8 a.m. on April 9 on the 1500 block of Payne Street.

 

Theft

Christopher L. Smith, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with retail theft at Dominick's at 10:30 p.m. on April 8 on the 1900 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for May 17.

Josephine Castillo, 38, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft at the Evanston Police Station at 12:26 p.m. on April 10. Her court date is set for May 5.

A man was seen placing hand tools in his pocket at Home Depot on the 2300 block of Oakton Street. He then fled the scene in a 2006 Chrysler. The thief was described as a large black man in his 40s, about 5-foot-9 and 240 pounds.

A man came into a location on the 1300 block of Sherman Avenue and stole cash at 10:30 a.m. on April 9. The thief was described as a 5-foot-10 black man about 200 pounds.

A package containing a dog toy was stolen at 10:59 a.m. on April 7 on the 800 block of Forest Avenue.

A woman accused the cleaning staff of her building of stealing gold jewelry from her room on the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on April 7.

Someone opened a package in a common area of an apartment building on the 100 block of Clyde Avenue and stole a Samsung R351 cell phone and charger at 6:30 p.m. on April 6.

Two blue bicycles were stolen out of a backyard between 4 p.m. on April 8 and 8:30 a.m. on April 9 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue.

A man's acquaintance stole his wallet and cell phone during an argument at 11:55 a.m. on April 10 on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue.

 

Driving under the Influence

Gerardo Pelayo, 32, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 12:16 p.m. on April 9 on the 2100 block of Oakton Street. His court date is set for April 28.

 

Trespassing

Nathan E. Livingston, 24, of Cary was arrested and charged with trespassing at 8:03 p.m. on April 9 on the 900 block of Davis Street. His court date is set for May 17.

 

Disobedience to Police

Devane O. Retreage, 26, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disobeying the police at 8:40 p.m. on April 10 on the 1800 block of Brown Avenue. His court date is set for May 17.

 

Obstructing Identification

Antonio Hooper, 43, of Evanston was arrested and charged with obstructing identification at 9 a.m. on April 9 on the 1900 block of Emerson Street. His court date is set for May 24.

 

Driving without a License

Ming Q. Ahmad, 48, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:17 p.m. on April 9 at the intersection of Keeney Street and Dodge Avenue. A court date is set for May 24.

Enrique S. Alarcon, 35, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4 p.m. on April 10 on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for May 3.

Robert A. Haas, 30, of Berywn was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:25 p.m. on April 9 on the 500 block of Michigan Avenue. His court date is set for May 3.

Keysha L. Marshall, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 1:10 p.m. on April 7 at the Evanston Police Station. Her court date is set for April 28.

Ramon R. Renterio, 39, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7:50 a.m. on April 9 on the 200 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for May 17.

Angela Rice-Davis, 51, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:17 a.m. on April 9 on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. Her court date is set for May 17.

Linda P. Thompson, 21, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:38 p.m. on April 7 on the 1600 block of Greenleaf Street. Her court date is set for April 28.

Juan A. Tlaseca, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:41 a.m. on April 9 on the 1000 block of Asbury Avenue. His court date is set for May 17.
