Police Blotter April 14: Food 4 Less Employee Strikes Co-worker; Man Knocks Down Sign After Car Towed

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Assault

Two female Food 4 Less employees got into an argument and one of them struck the other in the face before fleeing the store at 12:35 p.m. on April 13 on the 2400 block of Main Street. The offender was described as a black woman about 5-foot-5 and 150 pounds.

A heavyset woman assaulted someone at 4:41 p.m. on April 13 on the 1500 block of Oak Avenue. The offender was described as a white woman, 5-foot-4 and 250 pounds.

Vandalism

A man broke a sign at a business on the 1100 block of Howard Street at 3:55 p.m. on April 13. He was described as a black man about 5-foot-8 and 205 pounds. Willie J. Floyd, 39, of Evanston was later arrested in connection with this crime on the 4900 block of North Clark Street in Chicago. Floyd has been charged with criminal damage to property. According to police, Floyd parked his blue 1989 Chevrolet station wagner in a tow zone in front of the business for about 90 minutes until the owner of the business asked Lincoln Towing to remove the vehicle. Police said when Floyd returned to pick up his station wagon and learned that it had been towed away, he became irate and knocked down a clear plastic display sign, breaking it on the floor. He was arrested when he showed up to pick up his car at Lincoln Towing. His court date is set for May 5.

 

Unlawful Use of Weapon

Devane O. Retreage, 26, of Evanston was arrested and charged with unlawful use of weapon at 8:40 p.m. on April 10 on the 1800 block of Brown Avenue. A court date is set for May 17.

 

Burglary

A car in the Food 4 Less parking lot was broken into and 15 cartons of cigarettes were stolen at 1:15 p.m. on April 13 on the 2400 block of Main Street. A suspected burglar was described as a white woman, 5-foot-4 and 145 pounds.

A burglar cut into a fence at a business on the 2100 block of Ashland Avenue and stole the tires and rims off a 2009 Ford between 6 p.m. on April 12 and 6 a.m. on April 13.

Someone tried to enter a house on the 600 block of Florence Avenue by breaking down the door between 9:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

 

Theft

An expensive bicycle was stolen at 4:30 p.m. on April 13 on the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue from the bike rack at the Evanston Public Library.

A license plate was stolen off a 2006 Pontiac between 5 p.m. on April 12 and 5 p.m. on April 13 on the 400 block of South Boulevard.

 

Obstruction of Justice

Terrance Lyons, 26, of Chicago was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice at 5:46 p.m. on Arpil 12 on the 1300 block of Pitner Avenue. His court date is set for May 24.

 

Driving without a License

Rogelio R. Sanchez, 45, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 4:45 p.m. on the 3000 block of Park Place. His court date is set for May 24.

Kevin D. Tuft, 27, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license at 3:31 p.m. on April 13 on the 1400 block of Maple Avenue. His court date is set for May 3.

 

Shots Fired

Gun shots were heard at 3:48 a.m. on April 14 on the 1500 block of Darrow Avenue.
