Police Blotter April 18: Woman Hits Police Officer; Man Skips $52 Cab Fare

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Battery

A woman allegedly hit a police officer in the front yard of a house on the 1200 block of Lee Street at 2:52 a.m. on April 15. Police said Lauren E. Bonenberger, 22, went to the house and began pounding on the door, and the police were called. The police spoke to her, but she would not give her name and would not answer their questions. She started to stumble across the lawn, so an officer took her arm to steady her when police said she hit the officer. She then called the officers names before allegedly hitting a police officer again and getting arrested. Once inside the squad car, police said she refused to sit on the seat and instead laid on the floor. Police said her eyes were blood-shot and glassy. Her court date is set for May 24.

Two men battered someone in the parking lot of Food 4 Less at 9:56 p.m. on April 15 on the 2400 block of Main Street. The culprits were described as Hispanic men, about 5-foot-5 and 140 pounds.

Two coworkers were fighting at a nursing home between 6 p.m. and 6:44 p.m. on April 16 on the 2500 block of Gross Pointe Road.

 

Theft

A cab driver flagged down police in the McDonald's parking lot on the 1900 block of Dempster Street at 4:11 a.m. on April 17 and told them that he had a customer with no money to pay his fare. The man had been picked up at the corner of Golf and Crawford in Skokie and after driving him around to several locations, he had racked up a fare of $52. When police confronted the rider, he allegedly admitted he could not pay. Timothy J. Brown, 42, of Des Plaines was arrested and charged with theft of services. His court date is set for May 24.

A man was seen stealing Dewalt drill batteries from Home Depot at 2:40 p.m. on April 15 on the 2300 block of Oakton Street. The thief was described as a black man about 5-foot-3 and 200 pounds.

A pair of men stole some Black & Mild cigarillos from the 7-Eleven on the 800 block of Emerson Street at 12:54 a.m. on April 16. One thief was a black man about 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds and the other was a black man about 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds.

Bedding and linens were stolen from a house on the 800 block of Colfax Street at 2:55 p.m. on April 14.

A gray Trek women's bicycle and a gray men's bicycle were found stolen from an unlocked garage at 10 a.m. on April 16 on the 2600 block of Grant Street.

A 16-inch black bicycle was found stolen out of someone's lawn at 12:35 p.m. on April 15 on the 1500 Seward Street.

A blue Samsung cell phone was stolen at 9 p.m. on April 14 on the 400 block of Callan Avenue.

 

Burglary

Cash, a Nuvi GPS system and a cell phone charger were stolen from a 2002 Chrysler between 1 a.m. and 7:53 a.m. on April 15 on the 400 block of Custer Avenue.

An I-Pass was found stolen out of a unlocked Mazda at 12:50 p.m. on April 16 in a parking lot on the 1000 block of Chicago Avenue.

A black iPhone was stolen from a business on the 700 block of Church Street between 9 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. on April 14. A door had been left unlocked.

Someone broke into a locker on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue and stole a black HTC MyTouch 4G cell phone and cash sometime before 10 p.m. on April 15.

A door was found broken into at a business on the 1700 block of Chicago Avenue at 8 p.m. on April 16.

 

Vandalism

Christopher S. McBeth, 36, of Evanston was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property at 3:06 a.m. on April 15 on the 1700 block of Monroe Street. His court date is set for April 20.

A man broke out a window on an apartment at 3:06 a.m. on April 15 on the 1700 block of Monroe Street. He drove a 1992 Lexus and was described as a black man about 5-foot-8 and 190 pounds.

The common area of an apartment/condo building on the 800 block of Davis Street was found vandalized at 3:15 a.m. on April 17 by two white men about 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds.

A 2006 Honda was moved and damaged between midnight on April 14 and 7:50 a.m. on April 15 on the 2200 block of Ridge Avenue.

Three tires were slashed on a 2003 Pontiac between 6 p.m. on April 16 and 5 p.m. on April 17 on the 1400 block of Grey Avenue.

A rear passenger window of a 2003 Ford was shattered as it was parked on the street on Case Street between 8 p.m. on April 15 and 5:01 a.m. on April 16.

The rear window of a 2002 Pontiac was broken out between 2:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on April 17 on the 1400 block of Elmwood Avenue.

 

Driving under the Influence

Francisco Mendoza-Vasquez, 45, of Cicero was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 4:30 a.m. on April 16 on the 1000 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for May 24.

Donald R. Simmons, 26, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence on April 16 on the 1700 block of Payne Street. His court date is set for April 29.

 

Trespassing

Shaquill D. Green, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with trespassing at 5 p.m. on April 17 on the 1700 block of Brown Avenue. His court date is set for May 17.

 

Prostitution

Angel Z. Ho, 44, of Chicago was arrested and charged with prostitution at 6:15 p.m. on April 15 on the 1200 block of Chicago Avenue. Her court date is set for April 28.

Jian P. Yao, 48, of Chicago was arrested and charged with prostitution at 6:35 p.m. on April 15 on the 1200 block of Chicago Avenue. Her court date is set for April 28.

 

Marijuana Possession

William A. Osborne, 25, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana on April 14 on the 1800 block of Brown Avenue. His court date is set for April 29.

 

Driving without a License

Tomoko A. Block, 45, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 7:27 a.m. on April 15 on the 500 block of Main Street. His court date is set for May 17.

Connie R. Cole, 48, of Wheeling was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 8:26 a.m. on April 17 on the 300 block of Sheridan Road. Her court date is set for May 17.

Amalia Cuevas-Esponoza, 34, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 7 a.m. on April 16 on the 1500 block of Hinman Avenue. Her court date is set for May 3.

Patrick Edmond, 47, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 3:21 p.m. on April 16 on the 100 block of Custer Avenue. His court date is set for June 1.

Kenneth L. Goodwin, 37, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license at 4:15 a.m. on April 17 on the 800 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for April 28.

Matthew K. Green, 39, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license at 11:19 a.m. on April 15 on the 900 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for June 6.

Rodney T. Malone, 40, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license at 9:48 p.m. on April 16 on the 8400 block of McCormick Boulevard. His court date is set for May 5.

Edward Portillo, 29, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license at 8:36 a.m. on April 15 on the 500 block of South Boulevard. His court date is set for May 17.

 

Graffiti

A park building was tagged with graffiti at Bent Park on the 3200 block of Central Street.

A garage was found tagged with graffiti at 9:06 a.m. on April 17 on the 2100 block of Lincoln Street.

A garage was found tagged with graffiti at 9:45 a.m. on April 17 on the 2000 block of Lincoln Street.

A garage was found tagged with graffiti at 9:55 a.m. on April 17 on the 2400 block of Brown Avenue.
