Police Blotter April 19: Three Arrested in Fight on Hovland; Chevy Impala Stolen off Street

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Disorderly Conduct

John R. Parks, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 5:11 p.m. on April 18 on the 1800 block of Hovland Court. Police said Parks was involved in a fight in the street in which he wielded a baseball bat. When police arrived, the fighters scattered, but police were able to catch Parks and a juvenile who also had a bat. Parks' court date is set for May 17.

Disobedience to Police

Anthony M. Parks, 21, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disobedience to police at 5:11 p.m. on April 18 on the 1800 block of Hovland Court. Police said after a fight broke out in the street, police tried to break it up but Parks continued to agitate the crowd and refused to leave the scene. His court date is set for May 12.

 

Theft

A 2006 Chevrolet Impala was stolen off the street between 9 p.m. on April 17 and 7:30 a.m. on April 18 on the 1200 block of Dewey Avenue. Police said the owner believed she had locked the car.

A 26-inch Schwinn bicycle that was locked to a bike rack on the 600 block of Main Street was stolen sometime before 4:35 p.m. on April 18.

 

Attempted Murder

Anthony M. Conorquie, 17, of Evanston was arrested and charged with attempted murder at 4:09 p.m. on April 15 on the 1100 block of Dewey Avenue. His court date is set for May 25.

 

Assault

A customer hit an employee at the Walgreens on the 2100 block of Green Bay Road at 8:53 p.m. on April 17. The suspect was described as a 5-foot-7 black man about 140 pounds.

Jeffrey A. Mohrenweiser, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery at the Evanston Police Station at 7:40 p.m. on April 18. His court date is set for June 1.

Cleophus D. Rufus, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery at 5:20 p.m. on April 15 on the 1700 block of Leland Avenue. His court date is set for May 3.

 

Burglary

A burglar entered an open garage door and stole a pocket knife at 6:12 p.m. on April 18 on the 1500 block of Monroe Street. He was described as a 6-foot Hispanic man about 150 pounds and he drove off in a 2000 Jeep.

A burglar reportedly went into an apartment through an unlocked bedroom window and stole a Samsung cell phone between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on April 18 on the 2200 block of Emerson Street.

A burglar tried to get into an apartment with a pry tool to the front window at 1:37 p.m. on April 18 on the 100 block of Custer Avenue.

 

Vandalism

A restaurant window was broken out at 9:58 p.m. on April 17 on the 800 block of Church Street.

A sign was damaged at a church on the 1400 block of Hinman Avenue between 8:30 a.m. on April 16 and 8:30 a.m. on April 17.

A 17-year-old Chicago resident was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property at 4:10 a.m. on April 16.

 

Arrest Warrant

A 17-year-old Evanston resident was arrested on a warrant at 3:20 p.m. on April 15 on the 300 block of Custer Avenue.

 

Marijuana Possession

Antonio Hooper Sr., 42, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana at 10:32 p.m. on April 17 on the 1900 block of Emerson Street. His court date is set for May 4.

 

Driving without a License

Rodney E. Graves, 45, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:21 p.m. on April 16 on the 500 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for May 5.

Deonte E. Harshaw, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:15 p.m. on April 16 on the 100 block of South Boulevard. His court date is set for May 3.

Melisha T. Morales, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:29 p.m. on April 18 at the intersection of Lake Street and Ridge Avenue. Her court date is set for May 5.
