Police Blotter April 4: Road Rage Confrontation; Gun Threat at Buffalo Wild Wings

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Vandalism

The driver of a white and tan 1996 Toyota slammed on its brakes, and the driver of a 2007 Honda behind him honked his horn. The driver of the Toyota then got out of his car, kicked the Honda and began screaming obscenities at its operator at 4:30 p.m. April 2 in the 1000 block of Davis Street. The screaming driver was described as a thin white man with a shaved head in his 30s, about 6-foot-2 and 160 pounds. He wore blue jeans and a light sweatshirt. His foot dented the Honda's rear driver's side door.

Sugar was poured into the gasoline tank of a 1995 Oldsmobile while it was parked on the street between March 27 and April 3.

Scratches and dents were left on a 2005 Chrysler while it was parked between 10:30 p.m. on April 1 and 9 a.m. on April 2 in the 1400 block of Seward Street.

The tires of a 2001 Mazda were slashed while it was parked in an alley between 10 p.m. on April 2 and 10:29 a.m. on April 3 in the 700 block of Hinman Avenue.

Both the front and rear door locks of a vacant building were found broken at 4 p.m. April 2 in the 1900 block of Emerson Street.

---

Several slats were broken off a picket fence April 2 or April 3 in the 800 block of Simpson Street.

Disorderly Conduct

An Evanston man was arrested at Buffalo Wild Wings after allegedly threatening employees. Cornell C. Lang, 29, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 11:30 p.m. April 1 in the 1700 block of Maple Avenue. Lang allegedly told the restaurant's employees that he had a gun and demanded that they sell him a basket of french fries for $1. According to police, Lang told the workers that someone would get hurt if his request was denied. Police said Lang did not actually have a gun in his possession. His court date is May 3.

Sexual Assault

Brett J. Loyd, 22, of Skokie, was arrested and charged with sexual assault at 1:25 p.m. March 30 in the 3300 block of Main Street in Skokie. He was taken into custody in connection with an incident that occurred in late October. His court date is April 29.

Robbery

A man was traveling north on the Purple Line between Howard Street and South Boulevard when three black male teenagers approached him and stole his laptop. One of the assailants punched the man in the face before the group left the train at South Boulevard at 4:10 p.m. March 31. The computer was a 13-inch silver Mac laptop. (.)

Burglary

The rear passenger window of a 1997 Ford was smashed and an Apple iPod music player and a coat were stolen from the car while it was parked overnight March 31 in the 700 block of Wesley Avenue.

A black Sony car stereo was ripped out of an unlocked 1998 Subaru April 3 in the 1100 block of Dodge Avenue.

Theft

Porscha C. Hamilton, 18, of Evanston, was arrested and charged with retail theft at 7:12 p.m. April 1 at Dominick's supermarket in the 1900 block of Dempster Street. Her court date is April 21.

Elliott F. King, 39, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with retail theft at 9 p.m. March 31 at the CVS drugstore in the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue. His court date is April 15.

Ryan O. Bailey, 26, of Evanston, was arrested and charged with theft at 8:30 a.m. April 1 at the corner of Asbury Avenue and Davis Street. His court date is April 14.

An Advantage flatbed trailer was stolen from a parking lot in the 2400 block of Howard Street between Feb. 15 and April 3. The trailer was silver but unpainted.

A woman reported her wallet was stolen April 1 while she was in the 1900 block of Dempster Street. The suspected pickpocket was described as tall black woman who wore a brown jacket, blue jeans and black boots.

A Smith & Wesson 9 mm pistol was stolen from a bedroom between 5:45 a.m. on April 1 and 4 p.m. on April 2 in the 1200 block of Darrow Avenue. The woman who reported the incident told police she might know who took the gun.

A man told police that after a party at his apartment in the 900 block of Foster Street, he noticed his Apple MacBook computer was stolen. He suspected it was taken between 11:15 p.m. April 1 and 3 p.m. April 2.

Two artificial, spherical plants were stolen from in front of a business in the 1000 block of Davis Street between 8 p.m. April 1 and 9:40 a.m. April 2.

A man tried to steal items from the CVS drugstore in the 100 block of Asbury Avenue by stuffing the merchandise in a bag. But when he was spotted, he dropped the bag at the exit doors and ran out the store at 7:17 a.m. April 2.

A 15-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with retail theft at 9 p.m. March 31 at the Dominick's supermarket in the 1900 block of Dempster Street.

Domestic Battery

A 40-year-old Vernon Hills woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 4:40 p.m. April 1 in the 1400 block of Dobson Avenue. Her court date is April 13.

Driving under the Influence

Joe Davis, 77, of Evanston, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 2:15 a.m. April 2 in the 800 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is May 3.

Disobedience to Police

Kimbrince E. Wallace, 27, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with disobedience to police at 7:49 p.m. April 1 at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Howard Street. Her court date is April 11.

Drug Possession

Jeffrey L. Coursey, 46, and Richard L. Dotson, 58, both of Evanston, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance at 5:56 p.m. April 1 in the 2300 block of Oakton Street. Their court date is April 8.

Trespassing

A 13-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with trespassing at 10:47 p.m. April 1 at the Cinemark Century Theatres in the 1700 block of Maple Avenue.

Public Consumption of Alcohol 

Dantrell A. Posey, 25, of Evanston, was arrested and charged with public consumption of alcohol at 10:13 p.m. April 1 in the 100 block of Custer Avenue. His court date is April 3.

Driving Without a License

Ismael Mozo, 23, of Evanston, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:10 p.m. March 31 at the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Brummel Street. His court date is April 28.

Karlos C. Sandy, 39, of Skokie, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7:29 a.m. April 3 in the 500 block of Howard Street. His court date is May 3.

Shots Fired

Four to seven shots were reportedly fired near the Ladd Arboretum, at the corner of Bridge Street and McCormick Boulevard, at 3:46 a.m. April 3.
