Police Blotter April 5: Burglary Theft Costs $1,300

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

A burglar went into a garage on the 2200 block of Lincolnwood Drive and stole a woman's wallet from an unlocked car. The wallet contained identification and credit cards. Before the victim noticed it was missing, the thief had racked up $1,300 in charges on her bank card.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

An Evanston woman was seen by police at the corner of Howard Street and Asbury Avenue, waiting at the bus stop and approaching passing cars at 4:02 a.m. on April 4. Police stopped and asked why she was approaching cars and waiting for a bus at a time when no buses are running. Police said she did not give a satisfactory answer, so a female officer searched her and found a small marijuana pipe and a half-burnt cigar blunt. Loara I. Wixson, 51, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Her court date is set for April 14.

 

Vandalism

Someone broke out the rear window of a 2008 BMW that was parked on the street on the 300 block of Darrow Avenue on April 3 and April 4.

Someone broke out the front window of a 2003 Audi that was parked on the street on the 300 block of Darrow Avenue on April 3 and April 4.

Someone broke out a rear window of a 2007 Hummer that was parked on the street on the 2200 block of Crain Street between 6:30 p.m. on April 3 and 7:30 a.m. on April 4.

 

Domestic Battery

A 32-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 9:20 p.m. on April 2 on the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue. His court date is set for April 27.

A 38-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 8:03 p.m. on April 3 on the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue. A court date is set for April 27.

 

Driving without a License

Deonte E. Harshaw, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 1:10 a.m. on April 4 on the 400 block of Howard Street. A court date is set for April 28.

Hector M. Rios, 43, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 11:16 a.m. on April 4 on the 1200 block of Crain Street. His court date is set for May 17.

 

Graffiti

A garage was tagged with gang signs in yellow spray paint between noon on April 2 and 4:09 p.m. on April 4 on the 500 block of Florence Avenue.

A garage was vandalized with yellow spray paint between 1 a.m. on April 3 and 2:05 p.m. on April 4 on the 1400 block of Oakton Street.
