Police Blotter April 7: Thieves steal Gesso spray and Bacardi rum

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary

Burglars went into a house through an unlocked back door and stole a video camera, a Blackberry cell phone, a Hewlett-Packard laptop computer and an external hard drive at noon on April 6 on the 500 block of Michigan Avenue.

Someone broke into a 1999 Acura and stole a brown leather purse and wallet between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on April 6 on the 1500 block of Wesley Avenue.

Two men tried to break into a house through the back door at 7:51 p.m. on April 6 on the 1500 block of Dobson Avenue. The two men were described as black men, about 6-foot-1, 170 pounds and 25 years old.

 

Theft

Moneva A. Owens, 50, of Evanston was arrested and charged with retail theft at 1:55 p.m. on April 5 at Jewel-Osco on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. Her court date is set for April 22.

Two cans of Krylon Gesso spray were stolen from a store on the 1700 block of Maple Avenue at 12:46 p.m. on April 6. The thief was described as a white man with brown hair about 20 years old.

A laptop computer, sign pad, computer bag and token were stolen from near a victim's car at 4 p.m. on April 6 on the 1100 block of Church Street.

Juveniles stole two bottles of Bacardi rum from a store on the 1900 block of Dempster Street at 3:40 p.m. on April 6.

 

Vandalism

A fence was taken and a sign damaged between 9 p.m. on April 5 and 6 a.m. on April 6 on the 2600 block of Sheridan Road.

 

Driving without a License

Larry E. Cason, 67, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:30 p.m. on April 6 at the corner of Asbury Avenue and Harvard Terrace. His court date is set for May 5.

Shearie L. Harding, 22, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:49 p.m. on April 6 on the 1100 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for May 28.

Luis M. Hernandez, 26, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:09 p.m. on April 5 on the 500 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for May 5.

Carly B. Turner, 27, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:20 p.m. on April 5 on the 200 block of Dodge Avenue. Her court date is set for April 28.
