Police Blotter Aug. 1: Packers Fan Charged in Car Burglaries; Man Allegedly Hits Police

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

A teenager in a black T-shirt and a Green Bay Packers cap was allegedly spotted fidgeting with door handles and setting off car alarms at 4:18 a.m. on July 28 on the 1300 block of Washington Street. When police arrived, he ran but was soon caught and arrested. Jodi D. Manuel, 18, of Chicago was charged with two counts of felony burglary. Police said they found $10 in coins, a Swiss Army knife and a Tom-Tom GPS device on him. The items were reported stolen on that same day in a string of auto burglaries on the 1100 and 1200 block of Maple Avenue. Police said they believed Manuel was involved in eight auto burglaries, but he was charged in just the two that they could link contraband. The GPS and the knife were reportedly identifed by the owners. A court date for Manuel is set for Sept. 1.

A green, two-speed Schwinn tandem bicycle was stolen through an open garage door between 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on July 29 on the 2200 block of Noyes Street. Police said they spotted a teenager riding a tandem bicycle by himself at the intersection of Church Street and Dodge Avenue shortly thereafter. Blake J. Ross, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with theft at 6:15 p.m. His court date is set for Sept. 13.

A Trek 3700 bicycle was stolen from a reportedly locked garage between July 1 and July 30 on the 1500 block of Ridge Avenue. There were no signs of forced entry to the garage when the bike owner noticed it missing at 6:18 p.m. on July 30.

Burglars broke into a house on the 2200 block of Lyons Street, damaging the back door and frame between noon and 3 p.m. on July 31, but nothing was taken.

Cash and an Invision GPS device were stolen from an unlocked 2008 Suzuki between 10 p.m. on July 30 and 1:45 p.m. on July 31 on the 2400 block of Lake Street.

Cash was stolen from a car parked in the driveway of a house on the 1000 block of Greenwood Street between noon and 3 p.m. on July 28.

A car cell phone charger was swiped from a 2010 Honda between 12:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on July 30 on the 2300 block of Harrison Street.

An unlocked 2008 Toyota was broken into between 10:50 a.m. on July 29 and 9:45 a.m. on July 30 on the 2200 block of Lincolnwood Drive. Nothing was missing.

 

Battery

A man allegedly hit police at an apartment on the 700 block of Clark Street at 3:19 a.m. on July 29. Jose T. Nateras, 22, of Lombard was arrested and charged with battery. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

 

Theft

A woman allegedly stole clothing from Target at 8:55 a.m. on July 29 on the 2200 block of Howard Street. Shuandel E. Wimberly, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with shoplifting at 9:15 a.m. Her court date is set for Aug. 12.

A man allegedly stole Bacardi rum from the Jewel-Osco on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 11:40 p.m. on July 30. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot and 150 pounds.

A gray Porter air gun tool was stolen from Oakton Elementary School between noon on July 28 and 6:30 p.m. on July 29 on the 400 block of Ridge Avenue.

A purse was hanging on the back of a chair at a restaurant at 12:45 p.m. on July 29 on the 900 block of Church Street.

A wallet and a Samsung Smile cell phone were left unattended in a bag at the beach when they were reported stolen at 5 p.m. on July 30 on the 1400 block of Sheridan Road.

A wallet was reported stolen from a mental health center on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue at 12:30 a.m. on July 29.

Four credit cards and a driver's license were stolen from a wallet at a business on the 700 block of Main Street between 10 a.m. and noon on July 29.

A package was stolen from an apartment building lobby between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on July 29 on the 400 block of South Boulevard. Delivery of the package had been confirmed.

A 17-year-old Lincolnwood resident was arrested and charged with shoplifting at Marshall's at 4:27 p.m. on July 30 on the 2400 block of Main Street.

A maroon Trek cruiser bicycle was locked to a street light but stolen between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 26 on the 600 block of Dempster Street.

A locked girls' Trek hybrid mountain bike was reported stolen from an apartment common area at 3 p.m. on July 30 on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue.

A locked blue Magna Great Divide bicycle was stolen from a rack on the 1900 block of Sherman Avenue between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on July 25.

A black 27-inch Raleigh bicycle was stolen from an apartment common area at 11:30 p.m. on July 29 on the 900 block of Davis Street.

An unlocked brown Schwinn bicycle was stolen from a lawn between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on July 29 on the 700 block of Case Street.

An Apple iPhone 4 was stolen from a gym locker at the YMCA between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 29 on the 1000 block of Grove Street.

 

Vandalism

Someone shot an apartment window with a pellet gun in the night between July 30 and July 31 on the 1900 block of Howard Street.

The rear tail light and bumper of a 2001 Chevrolet were busted between 3 p.m. and 4:03 p.m. on July 31 in the parking lot of Food 4 Less on the 2400 block of Main Street.

The rear window of a 2010 Ford was smashed between 3:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on July 30 on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue.

The rear gate to a house was damaged on July 26 on the 900 block of Forest Avenue.

The trunk of a 1999 Acura was scratched between 9 p.m. on July 30 and 12:45 p.m. on July 31 on the 600 block of Linden Place.

 

Domestic Battery

A domestic-related assault was reported at 9:45 p.m. on July 28 on the 100 block of Clyde Avenue. A 32-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with assault at 11:09 p.m. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

A 33-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 11:47 p.m. on July 29 on the 1800 block of Lake Street. Her court date is set for Aug. 3.

 

Trespassing

Donald A. Reese, 47, of Evanston was arrested and charged with trespassing at Jewel-Osco at 2 a.m. on July 29 on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

 

Arrest Warrant

Cindy S. Wiltfong, 45, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 5 p.m. on July 28 at the First Presbyterian Church on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue.

 

Driving without a License

Stainslaw R. Galik, 40, of Stone Park was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license at 5:12 a.m. on July 31 at the corner of Howard Street and North Paulina Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 8.

Gabriela Lopez, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a driver's license at 9:05 a.m. on July 28 at the intersection of South Boulevard and Sheridan Road. Her court date is set for Sept. 8.

 

Man with Gun

People reported they saw a man with a gun at 11:21 p.m. on July 29 on the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-4 and 150 pounds.

 

Other Crimes

Connor J. Cole, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with some other crime at 12:33 p.m. on July 30 on the 2400 block of Colfax Street. His court date is set for Aug. 19.

Jermaine A. Villamil, 29, of Evanston was arrested and charged with some other crime at 4:58 p.m. on July 30 on the 1400 block of Brown Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 8.
