Police Blotter Aug. 15: Gunpoint Robbery at Apartment Building; Victim Attacked by Four Men in Alley

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

Two men showed a pistol and then demanded a victim's money in the common area of an apartment building on the 500 block of Custer Avenue at 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 13. The suspects are black men, one about 5-foot-9 and one about 5-foot-10.

Assault & Battery

Four men attacked someone in an alley of the 700 block of Reba Place at 9:23 p.m. on Aug. 13.

A man allegedly hit a police officer at 2:40 a.m. on Aug. 13 on the 400 block of Asbury Avenue. Anthony R. Scott, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery at 2:43 p.m. His court date is set for Sept. 8.

A woman allegedly assaulted someone at the Evanston Police Station at 5:26 p.m. on Aug. 12 on the 1400 block of Elmwood Avenue. Sherwanna L. Lones, 38, of Chicago was arrested and charged with assault at 5:30 p.m.. Her court date is set for Sept. 27.

Two people allegedly punched someone at a business on the 700 block of Howard Street at 4:26 p.m. on Aug. 12. Kaneesha L. Hollister, 20, of Chicago and a 16-year-old Chicago resident were arrested and charged with battery. The court date for Hollister is set for Sept. 27.

A woman reportedly hit her co-worker at a medical office on the 800 block of Austin Street at 2 p.m. on Aug. 8. The suspect is an Hispanic woman about 5-foot-7 and 225 pounds.

 

Burglary

A woman discovered two burglars trying to pry open the door of her apartment at 3:50 p.m. on Aug. 14 on the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue. The suspects are black males, one about 5-foot-5 and 120 pounds, the other about 5-foot-8 and 250 pounds.

Someone broke the door of a chain business on the 700 block of Main Street and stole cash from inside between 6:01 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 9:29 a.m. on Aug. 13.

Burglars entered an apartment through an unlocked door and stole a laptop computer, a Sony PlayStation and a television between 7 p.m. on Aug. 11 and 2 p.m. on Aug. 12 on the 200 block of Custer Avenue.

A burglar entered a house through an unlocked door and stole a purse and wallet between 2 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 14 on the 700 block of Wesley Avenue.

A burglar entered an unlocked garage and stole a silver ladder between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Aug. 13 on the 1000 block of Pitner Avenue.

Three men broke into a 2006 Toyota at 6:03 p.m. on Aug. 13 on the 500 block of Forest Avenue and stole an Apple iPod music player and a Tom Tom GPS device.

Burglars broke into an unlocked 2004 Nissan between 1:30 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. on Aug. 14 and stole cash, a 7-inch gray television anda gray DVD player on the 2100 block of Dobson Street.

Cash was stolen from an unlocked 2003 Toyota between 7 p.m. on Aug. 11 and 1:20 p.m. on Aug. 12 on the 200 block of Burnham Place.

A Marines hat was stolen from a 2003 Honda between 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 14 on the 1500 block of Brummel Street.

A burglar broke the door of a business on the 700 block of Main Street between 7 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 9:10 a.m. on Aug. 13, but could not get inside.

Someone cut a window screen to a house in a burglary attempt between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 12 on the 200 block of Dodge Avenue.

A burglar broke out the window of a 2006 Nissan parked in the alley of the 600 block of Main Street between 10:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m., but nothing was stolen.

 

Theft

A man allegedly stole vodka from the Jewel-Osco on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 11:45 a.m. on Aug. 11. Richard A. Crawford, 46, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft at noon. His court date is set for Aug. 15.

A man allegedly tried to cash a bad check at the currency exchange on the 1800 block of Dempster Street at 7:50 p.m. on Aug. 11. Police arrested Corey L. Weaver, 21, of Evanston and charged him with petty theft. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

A woman tried to steal a scarf at 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 12 from a business on the 600 block of Davis Street. The woman was confronted, and she dropped the scarf but ran away. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-6 and 175 pounds.

A wallet was snatched from a purse between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 13 on the 1200 block of Church Street.

Two Bridgestone tires and rims were ripped off a 2009 Honda between 8 p.m. on Aug. 11 and 4:15 a.m. on Aug. 12 on the 800 block of Michigan Avenue.

Two men stole a locked red GT bicycle from a lawn on the 1400 block of Ashland Avenue at 3:54 p.m. on Aug. 13.

A locked, black Brentwood bicycle was stolen from a lawn between 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 10 and 12:23 p.m. on Aug. 13 on the 2000 block of Maple Avenue.

A locked Trek bicycle was found stolen from someone's lawn at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 12 on the 1000 block of Ashland Avenue.

A locked Schwinn mountain bike was found stolen from someone's lawn at 11:10 p.m. on Aug. 14 on the 1100 block of Oak Avenue.

A locked green Schwinn bicycle was stolen between 9:50 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Aug. 13 on the 500 block of Sheridan Square.

A woman reportedly stole a maroon Verizon cell phone that was left unattended in a chain restaurant on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue between 8:45 a.m. and 8:47 a.m. on Aug. 14. The suspect is an Hispanic woman about 5-foot-4 and 150 pounds.

A 15-year-old Chicago resident was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property at 12:10 p.m. on Aug. 13 at the corner of North Winchester Street and West Birchwood Avenue in Chicago.

 

Vandalism

Prince S. Campbell, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 14 on the 2100 block of Darrow Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 31.

Someone broke the window of an apartment building with a landscape block between 1 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 13 on the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue.

Someone threw a brick through an apartment window at 3:46 p.m. on Aug. 13 on the 1500 block of Emerson Street.

Two men threw two bottles at a 2007 Sterling truck, damaging the antenna at 10:51 p.m. on Aug. 13 on the 1800 block of Emerson Street.

Someone started a fire in the park on the 1500 block of Lake Street at 10:32 a.m. on Aug. 14.

Someone tore the screens off the concession stand at the beach on the 1600 block of Sheridan Road between 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 11 a.m. on Aug. 13.

Someone broke a flower pot in someone's yard between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Aug. 13 on the 400 block of South Boulevard.

Blue graffiti was found on the street at 12:47 p.m. on Aug. 12 on the 100 block of Dodge Avenue.

 

Domestic Battery

An 18-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 10:31 p.m. on Aug. 12 on the 1800 block of Monroe Street. Her court date is set for Aug. 31.

A 34-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 9:10 p.m. on Aug. 11 on the 100 block of South Boulevard. His court date is set for Aug. 24.

 

Driving under the Influence

Catherine E. Burgeson, 61, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 10:25 p.m. on Aug. 13 on the 1800 block of Central Street. Her court date is set for Sept. 8.

Omar Y. Gutierrez, 21, of Melrose Park was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 2:48 a.m. on Aug. 12 on the 1900 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Sept. 1.

 

Trespassing

Gerald C. Richardson, 29, of Chicago was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to land at 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 11 on the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 27.

 

Disorderly Conduct

John E. Walsh, 22, of Glenview was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 1:09 a.m. on Aug. 13 on the 1000 block of Hull Terrace. His court date is set for Sept. 13.

 

Driving without a License

Joel Gonzalez, 23, of North Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:40 a.m. on Aug. 13 on the 300 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Aug. 31.

Michal J. Miszczak, 22, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2 a.m. on Aug. 14 on the 1800 block of Oakton Street. His court date is set for Aug. 31.

 

Shots Fired

Gun shots were heard at 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 11 at the corner of Simpson Street and Brown Avenue.

Gun shots were heard at 1:01 a.m. on Aug. 14 at the corner of Oakton Street and Custer Avenue.

 

Open Alcohol Container

Danielle L. Grier, 38, of Evanston was arrested and charged with open alcohol container at 1:46 a.m. on Aug. 12 on the 1800 block of Lemar Avenue. Her court date is set for Sept. 22.

 

Underage Consumption

Sean C. McClure, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with underage consumption at 11:43 p.m. on Aug. 12 on the 800 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 8.
