Police Blotter Aug. 17: Bike Taken in Robbery; Bomb Threat Made on Darrow

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

A gang of eight males demanded someone turn over a white Diamondback BMX bicycle on the sidewalk at McCormick Boulevard and Bridge Street at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 16.

Bomb Threat

An Hispanic male reportedly left an explosive device on the sidewalk at 4:14 p.m. on Aug. 16 on the 2200 block of Darrow Avenue.

 

Assault

A woman allegedly threatened someone verbally at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 16 at a business on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds.

 

Burglary

Burglars broke into a house through an unlocked door and stole a black Dell laptop computer, cash, a black Canon camera, a purse, a purple-and-white Apple iPhone, and a Canon SureShot camera between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 1100 block of Hinman Avenue.

Burglars broke into an apartment through an unlocked front door and stole a silver Apple laptop computer and cash between 1 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 1600 block of Orrington Avenue.

A burglar went into a house through an unlocked back door and stole a duffle bag at 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 1200 block of Hinman Avenue.

A burglar entered an unlocked 2000 Nissan and stole seven compact discs, vehicle registration and the insurance card between 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 15 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 2900 block of Hartzell Street.

A burglar entered an unlocked 2007 Toyota and stole a GPS device, gift cards and cash between 11 p.m. on Aug. 15 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 900 block of Brown Avenue.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 2006 Honda and stole cash between 6 p.m. on Aug. 15 and 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 2300 block of Brown Avenue.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 1997 Nissan and stole a silver-colored Apple iPod music player between 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 and 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 16 on the 3400 block of Park Place.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 2010 Volvo and stole a Garmin GPS device between 8 p.m. on Aug. 15 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 2700 block of Princeton Avenue.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 2007 Toyota and stole an insurance card, the vehicle registration and some personal items between 8 p.m. on Aug. 15 and 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 2600 block of Princeton Avenue.

Someone broke out a window of a 2000 Dodge in a parking lot on the 600 block of Main Street sometime before 11:19 a.m. on Aug. 16. Nothing was reported missing.

 

Theft

A teenager allegedly stole a purse out of a stroller in Fireman's Park on the 1100 block of Simpson Street at 9:56 a.m. on Sept. 15. Devante J. Penick, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with petty theft at 10 a.m. on the 1300 block of Simpson Street. His court date is set for Sept. 13.

Two women allegedly picked a wallet from someone's pocket between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Aug. 15 at the Dempster El Station on the 1300 block of Sherman Place. The suspects are Hispanic women, one 5-foot-7 and 125 pounds; the other 5-foot-9 and 130 pounds.

A man allegedly stole a hat from a business on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue at 6:54 p.m. on Aug. 16. The suspect is a black male about 5-foot-9 and 120 pounds.

A Rip Cur men's bicycle was left unsecured in a lawn when it was noticed missing at 2 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 1900 block of Lee Street.

A vehicle sticker was found ripped off a car at 5:18 p.m. on Aug. 15 on the 2300 block of Brown Avenue.

 

Vandalism

Glass was broken on the front door of a condominium between 7:30 p.m. and 9:27 p.m. on the 800 block of Brummel Street.

Gang graffiti was found in Butler Park at 10:50 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 2200 block of Foster Street.

Graffiti was found on the railroad right-of-way at 3:21 p.m. on Aug. 16 on the 900 block of University Place.

 

Man with Gun

A man said another man pointed a gun at him at 8:48 p.m. on Aug. 16 on the corner of Dodge Avenue and Church Street.

 

Driving under the Influence

Tyler D. Morrison, 20, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 10:10 a.m. on Aug. 16 on the 2100 block of Harrison Street. His court date is set for Sept. 27.

 

Driving without a License

Regina Y. Hunt, 39, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:30 p.m. on the 3300 block of Dempster Street in Skokie. Her court date is set for Oct. 20.

Scott G. Jeter, 27, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:53 a.m. on Aug. 15 on the 2200 block of Church Street. His court date is set for Sept. 27.

Romulo Simbana-Asmal, 32, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:14 p.m. on Aug. 14 on the 1800 block of Brummel Street. His court date is set for Sept. 15.
