Police Blotter Aug. 25: Man Caught Stealing Paint at Home Depot; Three Juveniles Charged with Auto Burglary

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

Three juveniles were arrested and charged with burglary to auto at 4:14 p.m. on Aug. 24 on the 1800 block of Church Street. The juveniles were all from Evanston; one was 16 years old and the other two were 15.

Two bicycles were stolen from an open garage door between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 on the 2300 block of Forestview Road. The bikes were a white-and-silver Dolce X3 and a red-and-white Fuji Dynamite 20.

A burglar tried to pry off the cylinder cover and cylinder lock from the back door of an apartment on the 300 block of Custer Avenue between 5 p.m. on Aug. 23 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 24.

 

Theft

A Chicago man allegedly stole paint from the Home Depot at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 on the 2300 block of Oakton Street. Vincent J. Peterson-Schandelmeier, 20, of the West Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

A male reportedly stole three bicycles and three bike helmets at 2:05 p.m. on Aug. 24 on the corner of Chicago Avenue and South Boulevard. Police said the bikes were locked on the sidewalk. The man stole a black-and-silver specialized men's bicycle, a black women's bicycle, and a light blue MTX women's bicycle. The suspect was a black male aobut 5-foot-6 and 126 pounds.

A black Schwinn bicycle was reported stolen at 5 p.m. on Aug. 24 off the sidewalk on the 600 block of South Boulevard. The bike was reportedly locked.

An unlocked Freespirit mountain bike was stolen from someone's lawn at 2:40 p.m. on Aug. 24 on the 1300 block of Hartrey Avenue.

A 13-year-old Skokie resident was arrested and charged with shoplifting at Food 4 Less at 5:34 p.m. on Aug. 24 on the 2400 block of Main Street.

 

Vandalism

Someone broke out the rear window of a 2005 Subaru between 6 p.m. on Aug. 23 and 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 24 on the 100 block of Dewey Avenue.

Steel support tubing and support posts were cut from a fence around a lawn on the 1700 block of Emerson Street at 8:17 a.m. on Aug. 24.

A parking lot was found marred with graffiti from a black marker at 9:12 a.m. on Aug. 24 on the 1100 block of Washington Street.

A 15-year-old Chicago resident was arrested and charged with criminal defacement to property at 8:55 p.m. on Aug. 24 on the 1600 block of Benson Avenue.

 

Driving without a License

Marco Garfias-Garcia, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:34 a.m. on Aug. 24 on the 1100 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 27.

Diana M. Martinez, 34, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:58 a.m. on July 16 on the 1100 block of Madison Street. Her court date was Aug. 10.

 

Driving without Insurance

Collen M. Shoemaker, 52, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving an uninsured motor vehicle at 11:50 p.m. on Aug. 24 on the 1100 block of Maple Avenue. Her court date is set for Oct. 5.
