Police Blotter Aug. 29: Man Jumped and Robbed; Assault Arrest Made in Rogers Park Drug Raid

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

A man was picked up by an ambulance at 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 28 on the 100 block of Asbury Avenue after police said he was jumped by 15 males and robbed of his billfold, Blackberry cell phone, bracelet and three gold chains. The man did not recall exactly where the incident took place, nor could he make out the exact number of attackers or their description.

Assault & Battery

A man allegedly assaulted a police officer between noon and 11 p.m. on July 23 in an apartment building common area on the 7600 block of North Bosworth Avenue in Rogers Park, Chicago. Thomas E. Sanders, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Police said they were called to the apartment on Bosworth to conduct a drug raid. Sanders tried to enter the blocked-off building and later allegedly took a swing at one of the officers. The drug raid led to the arrest of Ebony N. Sanders, 24, and Isaac J. Roach, 26, both of Chicago on charges of drug possession and drug possession with intent to sell. Police confiscated a number of pills as well as substances that looked like heroin and crack cocaine. The court date for Thomas Sanders is set for Sept. 13. The court date for Ebony Sanders and Roach is set for Sept. 9.

A man pushed his neighbor at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the 800 block of Main Street. The suspect is a white man about 6-foot-1 and 250 pounds.

Two males slapped and punched someone in the face on the grounds of Evanston Township High School at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspects are white males, about 5-foot-8 and 170 pounds.

A woman pushed someone to the sidewalk and punched the person in the face at 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the corner of Hartrey Avenue and Church Street. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-6 and 130 pounds.

A man allegedly assaulted someone at an apartment on the 200 block of Custer Avenue at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 25. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds.

 

Theft

A 2007 red Dodge Durango was stolen from an alley of the 1400 block of Washington Street between 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 27.

A blue 2006 Honda Shadow motorcycle was stolen off the street on July 12 on the 1900 block of Hartrey Avenue.

A woman allegedly stole liquor from the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 2400 block of Howard Street at 6 p.m. on Aug. 27. Carrie E. Feliciano, 26, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. Her court date is set for Sept. 27.

A woman allegedly stole clothing from the Target store on the 2200 block of Howard Street at 6:24 p.m. on Aug. 26. Socorro Gonzalez, 19, of Elgin was arrested and charged with retail theft. Her court date is set for Sept. 27.

Two men reportedly stole a bottle of Svedka vodka and a bottle of Grey Goose vodka at 10:57 p.m. on Aug. 25 from the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 2400 block of Howard Street. The suspects are both black men, one 5-foot-1o and 180 pounds and one about 5-foot-5 and 160 pounds. The bottles of vodka were recovered.

Two men reportedly stole a bottle of Jose Cuervo tequila from the Jewel-Osco grocery at 10:43 p.m. on Aug. 27 on the 2400 block of Howard Street.

Two men tried to steal something from an apartment condo area, but they fled when a man approached them at 6:01 p.m. on Aug. 27 on the 400 block of South Boulevard.

A man reportedly stole an envelope containing money from an apartment porch at 5 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the 1000 block of Ashland Avenue. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds.

Two men reportedly stole a purple Magnum 20-inch bicycle from a restaurant on the 1800 block of Dempster Street at 10:40 p.m. on Aug. 27. The suspects are black males, one 6-foot-2 and one 5-foot-9.

A woman allegedly stole a Nintendo Wii gaming system between 4:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the 600 block of Custer Avenue. The reported theft was domestic related.

A man allegedly stole cash in a domestic dispute at 9:35 a.m. on Aug. 27 at an apartment on the 1700 block of Simpson Street.

Two skateboards were stolen off a house porch on the 2100 block of Brummel Street at 4:56 p.m. on Aug. 27.

A Thule roof rack and basket were stolen from a 2007 Toyota at Eiden Park on the 700 block of Hinman Avenue between 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 5 p.m. on Aug. 27.

Jewelry was stolen from an apartment on the 1400 block of Greenleaf Street between Aug. 1 and Aug. 25.

A wood-burning Coleman stove was stolen from a lawn on the 1300 block of Dewey Avenue between 4 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 5 a.m. on Aug. 28.

A locked Schwinn bicycle was stolen from an apartment common area at 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 28 on the 1500 block of Oak Avenue.

A locked Jamis bicycle was stolen off a rack on the 2200 block of Sherman Avenue at 5 p.m. on Aug. 24.

An unlocked yellow-and-blue Schwinn bicycle was stolen out of someone's lawn between 4 p.m. and 4:03 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the 2100 block of Dobson Street.

A black-and-yellow GT girls' bicycle was stolen after it was left unlocked on the Nichols Middle School grounds at 3 p.m. on Aug. 26.

An unlocked green-pink-and-black bicycle was stolen from someone's yard on the 1000 block of Florence Avenue at 1:05 p.m. on Aug. 25.

An unlocked red mountain bike was stolen out of a lawn on the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue between 5:30 p.m. and 6:53 p.m. on Aug. 25.

An unlocked blue 21-inch Raleigh girls' bicycle was stolen from an apartment building parking lot between 9 p.m. on Aug. 25 and 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the 100 block of Callan Avenue.

A black-and-silver Apple 4G cell phone was left unattended and stolen at 9 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the 300 block of Dempster Street. The suspect is an Hispanic male about 5-foot-4.

 

Burglary

A burglar stole a 20-inch flat-screen television from an apartment between 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Aug. 27 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue.

A man allegedly removed the screen from a window on a house on the 700 block of Case Street and stole a backpack between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Aug. 27. The suspect is a 5-foot-10 white man.

A burglar came into an apartment through an unlocked door and stole a Hannspree laptop computer between 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 on the 800 block of Noyes Street.

A burglar broke out the driver's-side window of a 2003 Honda and stole cash and a black Canon camera from the car between 6:50 a.m. and 5:54 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the 600 block of Main Street.

A burglar broke out the front passenger window of a 1999 Honda and stole the car stereo between 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 28 on the 1000 block of Florence Avenue.

A burglar broke out the driver-side window of a 2006 Subaru and stole a blue Garmin GPS device between 1 p.m. and 5:22 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the 800 block of Brummel Street.

A burglar came into a garage and stole a white Trek 7.3 bicycle and a Trek 7300 brown and gold bicycle between 7 a.m. on Aug. 21 and 1 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the 2100 block of Lawndale Avenue.

A green-and-silver Raleigh bicycle was stolen between 6 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 28 on the 1100 block of Ashland Avenue.

Burglars tried to remove a screen to enter a house on the 1200 block of Ridge Avenue, but the owner's dogs scared them off at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 27.

 

Vandalism

A rock was thrown through the window of a 1975 trailer at 7:18 p.m. on Aug. 28 on the 1700 block of Brown Avenue. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-8 and 250 pounds.

A man kicked in the front door of a business on the 800 block of Main Street at 3:40 a.m. on Aug. 28. The suspect is 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds.

A woman allegedly broke the front door glass of an apartment on the 100 block of Custer Avenue at 6:27 p.m. on Aug. 26.

A garage was marked up with graffiti between 5:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 on the 2100 block of Brummel Street.

Graffiti was found in a park on the 700 block of Madison Street at 6:49 p.m. on Aug. 28.

A business was tagged with graffiti between 8 p.m. on Aug. 25 and noon on Aug. 26 on the 1700 block of Benson Avenue.

A business was tagged with graffiti between 8 p.m. on Aug. 25 and 1 p.m. on Aug. 27 on the 800 block of Noyes Street.

Graffiti was found on a garage at 3:51 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the 1800 block of Grey Avenue.

Graffiti was found in a yard on the 1800 block of Grey Avenue at 3:47 p.m. on Aug 25.

Graffiti was found in a yard on the 1800 block of Hartrey Avenue at 3:48 p.m. on Aug 25.

 

Drug Dealing

Brian Brammer, 39, of Evanston was arrested and charged with trying to deal a fake, lookalike drug substance at 2:55 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the 1200 block of Oak Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 21.

 

Domestic Battery

A 13-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 8:40 p.m. on Aug. 28.

 

Driving under the Influence

Dianne C. Mendoza, 22, of Bolingbrook was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 4:02 a.m. on Aug. 26 on the 1800 block of Ridge Avenue. Her court date is set for Oct. 13.

 

Driving without a License

Julio C. Almanza, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 28. on the 1700 block of Brown Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 5.

Horacio Azucena-Leyva, 33, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:40 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the 100 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 27.

Ernest S. Foster, 65, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:10 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the 300 block of Sheridan Road. His court date is set for Sept. 1.

Leonard Soberanis, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the 100 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 13.

William W. Tooles, 49, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:41 p.m. on Aub. 26 on the 1200 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

Xavier R. Watson, 33, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:01 p.m. on Aug. 26 on the 600 block of Custer Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 27.

 

Shots Fired

Gun shots were reported at 9:36 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the 1500 block of Dempster Street.

Gun shots were reported at 8:19 p.m. on Aug. 27 on the 1900 block of Grey Avenue.

Gun shots were reported at 9:18 p.m. on Aug. 28 on the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Dobson Street.

 

Unlawful Riding

Lavel A. Smith, 18, of Chicago was arrested and charged with unlawful riding at 3:08 a.m. on Aug. 28 on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 22.
