Police Blotter Aug. 4: Car Stolen, Burglars Break in with Coat Hanger, Thieves Swipe Liquor from Jewel

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

Burglars pried open an interior front door of an apartment with a coat hanger between 9 a.m. and noon on Aug. 3 on the 1500 block of Dewey Avenue. They stole a Sony laptop computer, earrings and rings, including an engagement ring and a black X-Box gaming system. The total value of the items was about $5,000.

A burglar broke out a passenger-side window of a 2004 Chevrolet and stole a Garmin GPS device between 5 p.m. on Aug. 1 and 6 a.m. on Aug. 2 on the 1500 block of Hinman Avenue.

Theft

A red 1991 Plymouth Colt was stolen from the parking lot at Evanston Township High School between 10 p.m. on July 29 and noon on July 31 on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue. The two-door hatchback had four donut tires and a black roll bar.

Two men reportedly stole several bottles of liquor from the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 10:10 p.m. on Aug. 3. One of the suspects is a black man about 5-foot-11. He wore a black-and-white Gucci cap, a white T-shirt and khaki shorts. The two men ran out of the store and west on Greenwood Street when they were spotted by the store manager.

A locked, red Gary Fisher boys' bicycle was stolen from an apartment storage locker at 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 3 on the 1300 block of Oak Avenue.

An Apple iPhone was left on outdoor seating of a restaurant on the 1700 block of Maple Avenue, where it was stolen at 11:45 a.m. on Aug. 3. The suspect is a white male about 5-foot tall and 110 pounds.

A vehicle sticker for a 2001 Jeep was reported stolen at 3:38 p.m. on Aug. 2 on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue.

 

Vandalism

The rear window of a Volkswagen was broken out in an alley of the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Aug. 3.

A man reportedly broke a table at Mason Park at 3:36 p.m. on Aug. 1 on the 1700 block of Church Street. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot-1 and 145 pounds.

Gang signs written in blue and black ink were found in Larimer Park on the 1200 block of Oak Avenue at 3:50 p.m. on Aug. 3.

 

Domestic Battery

A 38-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 9:05 p.m. on Aug. 2 on the 800 block of Chicago Avenue. A court date is set for Aug. 17.

 

Driving without a License

Daniel Campos, 29, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:11 p.m. on Aug. 2 at the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Crain Street. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

Christopher A. Okon, 25, of Des Plaines was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:40 p.m. on Aug. 1 on the 2400 block of Church Street. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

Faviea E. Thompson, 44, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 3 on the 1200 block of Ridge Avenue. Her court date is set for Sept. 8.

 

Open Container

Dominick Houston, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with having an open container of alcohol in public at 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 3 on the 100 block of Custer Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 19.
