Police Blotter Aug. 5: Boy Robbed of Bike; Chicago Man Charged with Stealing Spray Gun

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

A teenage cyclist was walking his bike down Sherman Avenue south from Lee Street with another teenager, when the second boy punched him in the face and stole his bicycle at 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 4 on the 500 block of Sherman Avenue. The suspect is a black male about 14 years old, 5-foot-3 and 150 pounds. The boy who owned the bike was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was treated for a broken nose.

Theft

A man allegedly stole a spray gun from the Home Depot on the 2300 block of Oakton Street at 6:14 p.m. on Aug. 4. Police said the man, Duston A. Harris, 40, of Chicago, had paid for a spray machine, but tried to leave the store without paying for the actual gun. He was detained by Home Depot security without incident. A court date for Harris is set for Sept. 13.

A silver and black Dell laptop computer was stolen after a party and discovered missing at 8 a.m. on July 26 on the 1700 block of Ridge Avenue. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds.

Three males stole three Gatorades and two boxes of Twix from the garage repair shop on the 100 block of Chicago Avenue at 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 4.

A black Gary Fisher boys' bicycle was stolen at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. The bike was not locked.

Two 13-year-old Evanston residents were arrested and charged with theft at noon on Aug. 4 on the corner of Maple Avenue and Davis Street.

 

Burglary

Someone broke into an apartment between July 1 and Aug. 4 on Calvin Circle and stole pearl earrings and turquoise jewelry.

Someone broke into a 1999 Subaru and stole cash, medicine and four pairs of sunglasses between 8 p.m. on Aug. 3 and 6 a.m. on Aug. 4 on the 900 block of McDaniel Avenue.

Someone stole a pair of sunglasses from a 2009 Infiniti at 6 p.m. on Aug. 3 on the 1800 block of Wesley Avenue.

 

Vandalism

Red graffiti was sprayed on a business on the 900 block of Chicago Avenue between 10 p.m. on Aug. 3 and 10 a.m. on Aug. 4.

Graffiti was found in a park on the 100 block of Ashland Avenue at 7:49 a.m. on Aug. 4.

 

Marijuana Possession

Ferris A. Bonnet, 26, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 9:10 p.m. on Aug. 4 on the corner of Laurel Avenue and Emerson Street. His court date is set for Sept. 22.

 

Driving without a License

Antonio E. Avila-Olivera, 19, of Cicero was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:50 p.m. on Aug. 2 at the corner of South Boulevard and Michigan Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 13.

Jario Mancera-Rojas, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:10 p.m. on Aug. 3 on the 1200 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

Nicholas N. Neal, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7:16 p.m. on Aug. 4 on the 2100 block of Hartrey Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 13.

 

Open Container

Devinci Johnson, 23, of Evanston was arrested and charged with having an open container of alcohol at 11:03 p.m. on Aug. 4 on the 100 block of Custer Avenue. A court date is set for Aug. 19.
