Police Blotter Aug. 8: Three Boys Attacked and Robbed Over Weekend

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

A group of four males in bandannas approached two boys on the corner of Ashland Avenue and Church Street, knocked the boys down, pinned them to the ground and then stole their wallets, cell phones, identification and keys. One of the phones was valued at $200. The attackers were black males in their late teens, each with a bandanna across their faces, and some of them had their shirts off. The robbery occurred at 9 p.m. on Aug. 7.

A group of males knocked a boy off his bicycle, stomped on him and then tried to steal his wallet at 7 p.m. on Aug. 5 on the 1100 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspects are four Hispanic males, each about 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds. The boy sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. Nothing was stolen.

Battery

A man punched someone in the face repeatedly at 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 7 on the 1800 block of Leland Avenue. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds.

 

Burglary

A burglar broke into an apartment through an open window and stole a MacBook laptop computer, jewelry and a camera between Aug. 6 and 11:25 a.m. on Aug. 7 on the 2000 block of Sherman Avenue.

A burglar stole cash from a house on the 1200 block of Florence Avenue by unknown means between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Aug. 5. There was no sign of forced entry.

A burglar entered an unlocked apartment and stole a Mongoose bicycle at 3:40 p.m. on Aug. 7 on the 1800 block of Dempster Street.

A burglar went into a garage through an unlocked door and stole a blue Giant bicycle between 4 p.m. on Aug. 6 and 10 a.m. on Aug. 7 on the 2100 block of Wesley Avenue.

Someone entered the open door of a garage on the 2100 block of Wesley Avenue and stole a gray Cannondale bicycle and a Giant bicycle between 6:30 p.m. on July 26 and 8:30 a.m. on July 28.

A burglar broke out a rear passenger-side vent window on a 1998 Jeep and stole cash and a nebulizer machine between 6 p.m. on Aug. 5 and 9:40 a.m. on Aug. 6 on the 1300 block of Davis Street.

A burglar broke out the driver's side window of a 2008 Nissan and stole a Coach purse between 1:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 7 on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue.

A burglar broke out the driver's side window of a 2003 Nissan and stole a black purse between 1:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 7 on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue.

A burglar broke out a window on a 2005 Honda and stole the GPS device between 12:01 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Aug. 7 on the 800 block of Gaffield Place.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 2011 Honda and stole an Apple iPod music player at 4 a.m. on Aug. 6 on the 1600 block of Emerson Street.

Two panes of a window were broken in a burglary attempt between 5 p.m. on Aug. 5 and 10:45 a.m. on Aug. 6 on the 700 block of Mulford Street.

 

Theft

Middaliz Pellicia, 43, of Justice was arrested and charged with theft by deception at 4:56 p.m. on Aug. 6 on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue. A court date is set for Sept. 8.

A man allegedly stole vodka from the Jewel-Osco grocery at 8:32 p.m. on Aug. 4 on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. Datin L. Lee, 33, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft at 8:36 p.m. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

A man allegedly stole Grey Goose vodka and 1800 tequila at 10:53 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Jewel-Osco on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. Darius D. Steadman, 19, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for Oct. 5.

Three people allegedly stole personal items from the Food 4 Less grocery on the 2400 block of Main Street at 11:03 a.m. on Aug. 7. The suspects are a black man about 6-foot and 225 pounds along with two women.

A man allegedly stole food from the Aj Mini Mart at 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 5 on the 1900 block of Church Street. The suspect is an Hispanic man about 5-foot-8 and 165 pounds.

A wallet was stolen after it was left unattended in a shopping cart at Target at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 on the 2200 block of Howard Street.

A pink wallet was stolen from a bag on the Purple Line train at the Davis El station between 5 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. on Aug. 5 on the 1600 block of Benson Avenue.

Two men stole mail from a porch on the 1900 block of Dewey Avenue at 9:17 p.m. on Aug. 7.

A woman allegedly stole cash from a house on the 2000 block of Church Street on Aug. 2 in a domestic dispute. The suspect is a black woman about 5-feet tall.

A locked Trek bicycle was stolen off a rack between noon and 11 p.m. on Aug. 6 on the 800 block of Chicago Avenue.

A locked, blue 26-inch bicycle was stolen between 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 6 on the 1200 block of Lake Shore Boulevard.

A locked 26-inch men's Schwinn bicycle was stolen from someone's lawn at 9 p.m. on Aug. 6 on the 1900 block of Maple Avenue.

An unlocked blue Mongoose boys' bicycle was stolen at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 on the 100 block of Callan Avenue.

An Apple iPod music player was stolen off the counter at the Aj Mini Mart on the 1900 block of Church Street at 2 p.m. on Aug. 7.

A blue Samsung cell phone was stolen from an unsecured locker at St. Francis Hospital on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue between 2:45 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. on Aug. 3.

A set of keys were left on the floor at the L.A. Fitness athletic club when they were stolen between 5:25 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue.

 

Vandalism

Two tires were slashed on a 1998 Ford in an apartment complex parking lot between 9 p.m. on Aug. 6 and 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 7 on the 1500 block of Darrow Avenue.

A fence was damaged aside someone's lawn on the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue between 11:30 a.m. and 7:20 p.m. on Aug. 6.

Graffiti was marked on a garage on the 1800 block of Laurel Avenue between 7:50 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Aug. 6.

 

Domestic Battery

A 27-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 3:57 a.m. on Aug. 6 on the 700 block of Dewey Avenue. Her court date is set for Aug. 10.

 

Disobedience to Police

Neal P. Renzi, 34, of Chicago was arrested and charged with disobedience to police at 4:27 p.m. on Aug. 7 on the 100 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 22.

 

Driving under the Influence

Lewis T. Steadman, 55, of Lake Bluff was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 12:45 a.m. on Aug. 7 on the 1600 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for Aug. 31.

 

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Ricky D. Mitchell, 44, of Niles was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 2:01 a.m. on Aug. 6 on the 600 block of Sheridan Square. His court date is set for Aug. 19.

 

Man with Gun

A man was seen with a gun at the Davis El station at 8:27 a.m. on Aug. 5 on the 1600 block of Benson Avenue.

Six gun shots were heard at 5:05 a.m. on Aug. 6 at the corner of Pitner Avenue and Grove Street.

Four gun shots were heard at 9:47 p.m. on Aug. 5 on the 1400 block of Darrow Avenue.

A gun shot was heard at 2:02 a.m. on Aug. 7 on the corner of Darrow Avenue and Dempster Street.

Shots were heard at 10:08 p.m. on Aug. 6 on the 400 block of Custer Avenue.

 

Public Urination

Cesario A. Cox. 21, of Skokie was arrested and charged with public urination at 10:46 p.m. on Aug. 5 on the 1400 block of Foster Street. His court date is set for Sept. 2.

 

Trespassing

Antonio E. Dones, 20, of Chicago; Terrence G. Richardson, 21, of Evanston; and Rachel L. Rubens, 22, of Evanston were arrested and charged with trespassing in the park after hours at 9:34 p.m. on Aug. 6 on the 700 block of Reba Place. Their court date is set for Sept. 2.

Stephon D. Woods, 19, of Chicago was arrested and charged with trespassing in Baker Park after hours at 2:10 a.m. on Aug. 7 on the corner of South Boulevard and Forest Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 22.

 

Driving without a License

Rogelio R. Serracin, 36, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 4 on the 2300 block of Oakton Street. His court date is set for Aug. 18.

 

Open Container

Sterling M. Preister-Clark, 21, of Union City, Tenn., was arrested and charged with having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle at 11:38 p.m. on Aug. 5 on the 1700 block of Greenleaf Street. His court date is set for Sept. 2.

 

Noise Violation

Antwaan C. Pickett, 23, of Chicago was arrested and charged with violating the noise ordinance at 11:46 p.m. on Aug. 6 on the 1000 block of Darrow Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 2.
