Police Blotter Dec. 12: Job Application Ties Burglar to Crime Scene; Catalytic Converters Stolen

The following arrest information was supplied by the Evanston Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary

A Chicago man was arrested in the August 2010 burglary and theft of an $1,800 television after police said a leftover job application and clipboard tied him to the crime. Lorenzo Johnson, 48, of Chicago was charged with burglary at 2 p.m. on Thursday on the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue. The burglary took place on the 1700 block of Hinman Avenue. The resident noticed the Samsung flat-screen TV missing, but also found a clipboard with a filled-out job application that did not belong in the apartment. The name allegely matched fingerints found on the apartment and witnesses in the building saw Johnson in the building that day, police said. His court date is set for Dec. 22.

Burglars forced open the back door of an apartment and stole a Toshiba laptop computer, a car stereo, and a compact disc player with stereo system between 8:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Friday on the 1200 block of Harvard Terrace.

Burglars broke into an apartment through an unlocked window between 9:30 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. on Friday on the 1600 block of Fowler Avenue. A Microsoft X-Box gaming system, a Sony PlayStation, Sony video games, Levi's jeans and a Sony video accesory were among the items were reported stolen.

A burglar smashed out the window of a side door of a house on the 2700 block of Marcy Avenue and stole jewelry between 5:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday.

An unlocked 2002 Ford was found broken into at 4:50 p.m. on Saturday on the 900 block of Dodge Avenue. A Pentax Pro Master camera and a Tameron camera and other equipment were stolen.

 

Theft

A catalytic converter was ripped off a 1997 Toyota between midnight and 6 a.m. on Thursday on the 1800 block of Madison Street. The owner told police he heard sawing outside at about midnight.

A catalytic converter was also ripped off a 2000 Toyota between 7 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. on Friday on the 1000 block of Madison Street.

Computers were stolen from three unlocked classrooms at the Chiaravalle Montessori School on the 1400 block of Hinman Street between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday. An Apple iPhone was also stolen from one of the classrooms.

A male reportedly removed an Apple iPhone from a backpack at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the Evanston Township High School on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue.

Battery

A 17-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with aggravated battery at 9:45 p.m. on Friday on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue.

 

Driving under the Influence

Timothy C. Cavey, 30, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 10:30 p.m. on the corner of Custer Avenue and Brummel Street. His court date is set for Feb. 7.

Vantner Cruz, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday on the 1100 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Jan. 19.

 

Vandalism

Dimitri Juste, 27, of Glenview was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday on the 100 block of Callan Avenue. His court date is set for Dec. 21.

Someone tagged the Washington Elementary School with graffiti between 4 p.m. on Friday and 8:15 a.m. on Sunday on the 900 block of Ashland Avenue.

A chain business was marked up with graffiti between 10:59 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday on the 2400 block of Main Street.

Trespassing

Pablo Ramirez, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with trespassing at 3 a.m. on Saturday on the 1100 block of Dobson Street. His court date is set for Jan. 19.

Disorderly Conduct

Two 17-year-old Evanston residents were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the Evanston Police Station.

Marijuana Possession

Lanord M. Miles, 19, of Chicago was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 9:02 p.m. on Sunday on the 1800 block of Hartrey Avenue. His court date is set for Jan. 23.

Patrick L. Moore III, 24, of Chicago was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 7:40 p.m. on Friday on the 1800 block of Hovland Court. His court date is set for Jan.19.

Driving without a License

Neville B. Allen Jr., 25, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:51 a.m. today on the 1800 block of Lake Street. His court date is set for Feb. 7.

Alexander Calleja of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7 a.m. on Dec. 9 on the 1300 block of Oakton Street. His court date is set for Jan. 26.

Samuel N. Gaines, 31, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday on the 800 block of Davis Street. His court date is set for Jan. 17.

Reema A. Hayat, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:40 p.m. on Sunday on the corner of Callan Avenue and Oakton Street. Her court date is set for Jan. 26.

Christina M. Jones, 27, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:10 a.m. on Thursday at the corner of Dodge Avenue and Mulford Street. Her court date is set for Jan. 11.

Justin Juste, 52, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 1:53 p.m. on Thursday on the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for Jan. 11.

 

Underage Consumption

Donte Blackwell, 19, of Des Plaines was arrested and charged with underage consumption of alcohol at 10:25 p.m. on Friday at the Evanston Police Station. His court date is set for Jan. 26.
