Police Blotter Dec. 28: Grinch Steals Gifts from Van; Man Charged with Carrying Switchblade

The following arrest information was supplied by the Evanston Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Battery

An Evanston woman allegedly hit and kicked a cop after police came to her house on the 100 block of Clyde Avenue on reports of a domestic disturbance. Tamara A. Lightsey, 28, was arrested and charged with battery to a police officer. Police said she disobeyed their orders and when a male officer tried to stop her, she hit and kicked him. Her court date is set for Jan. 19.

Weapons Violation

James W. Johnson, 21 of Evanston was arrested after a traffic stop at 1:10 a.m. today on the corner of Golf Road and Tripp Avenue in Skokie and charged with unlawful use of weapon. Johnson was a passenger in the vehicle, which was searched after police said they smelled marijuana in the car. Police said there were pot clippings scattered in the upholstery. Upon searching, Johnson was allegedly found carrying a three-inch switchblade knife. His court date is set for Feb. 23.

Burglary

A burglar broke into an unlocked 1997 Dodge van between 10:36 p.m. and 11:36 p.m. on Christmas Eve and stole a Nintendo DS, children's toys and other wrapped Christmas gifts on the 2000 block of Foster Street.

A burglar took an air conditioner unit out of a window to a house to break in and then stole an IBM laptop computer and a television between 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday and 1 a.m. today on the 800 block of Milburn Street.

Vandalism

A man damaged the bumper to a 2005 Toyota between 6 p.m. on Dec. 21 and 9 a.m. on Dec. 22 on the 600 block of Sheridan Square.

Graffiti was reported on a condominium at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday on the 500 block of Elmwood Avenue.

A bus stop was marked up with graffiti between 11:08 a.m. and 12:18 p.m. on Dec. 21 on the corner of Howard Street and Clyde Avenue.

Arrest Warrant

Donald A. Chastang, 56, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 4:30 p.m. on Friday on the 1700 block of Simpson Street.

Anthony D. Foster, 20, of Lake Zurich was arrested on a warrant at 8:40 p.m. on Dec. 21 on the 2000 block of Wesley Avenue.

Corvell L. Hodges, 31, of Chicago was arrested on a pair of warrants at 8:55 a.m. on Dec. 22 on the 1000 block of McDaniel Avenue.

Driving without a License

Sarah Brown, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:15 a.m. today on the 1300 block of Oakton Street. Her court date is set for Feb. 9.

Karen I. Cruz, 23, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4 p.m. on Tuesday on the corner of Dempster Street and Pitner Avenue. Her court date is set for Feb. 7.

Jung H. Lee, 27, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:10 a.m. today on the 1200 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for Jan. 19.

Azem Murati, 41, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for Jan. 11.

 

Underage Consumption

Derrick E. Dumnicki, 19, of Glenview was arrested and charged with underage consumption at 7:21 p.m. on Tuesday on the 3300 block of Oakton Street in Skokie. His court date is set for Feb. 7.
