Police Blotter Dec. 30: Chicago Teens Caught Joy-Riding in Stolen Car; Man Hits Police at Station

The following arrest information was supplied by the Evanston Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Theft

A group of Chicago teenagers were allegedly caught in a stolen car at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday on the 1600 block of Fowler Avenue. Police said and officer noticed the car had been reported stolen in the Humboldt Park of Chicago when he ran the plates. As the officer stopped the car, the teenagers fled. The 16-year-old male driver was picked up in the 1600 block of Pitner Avenue and charged with possession of stolen vehicle and criminal trespass to vehicle. Jordy Morales, 18, was arrested along with three teenage girls and charged with criminal trespass to vehicle; one of the girls was 16 and the other two were 17 years of age. A court date for Morales is set for Feb. 7 in Skokie. The others will be tried in the juvenile courts.

An Evanston man was stopped by police after reportedly causing a disturbance outside on the 800 block of Davis Street at 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday. After he was arrested on a pair of outstanding warrants, Samuel L. Calhoun, 35, allegedly choked one police officer and then held a second officer in a headlock and punched him in the head while they attempted to book him at the Evanston Police Station on the 1400 block of Elmwood Avenue at 3:10 a.m. One officer received a cut on the lip while the other had red marks on the throat. A court date for Calhoun is set for Feb. 9.

A woman allegedly hit a police officer inside an apartment on the 100 block of Clyde Avenue at 3 a.m. on Tuesday. Tamara A. Lightsey, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery. Her court date is set for Jan. 19.

Burglary

Two men forced open the door to an apartment with a tool between 2:15 p.m. and 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday and stole two gold necklaces, one gold-and-ruby necklace and one ruby necklace on the 700 block of Ridge Avenue. The suspects are both black men about 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds.

A burglar broke into a retirement home on the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue and stole a gold diamond ring, an amethyst ring, a gold diamond watch, a gold bracelet, bamboo-design jewelry and an Apple iPod music player between 8 p.m. on Christmas and 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

A burglar forced entry to a 2003 Pontiac and stole a Little People zoo and a Dance with Me doll between 7 a.m. on Dec. 21 and 9:30 a.m. on Monday on the 800 block of Forest Avenue.

Someone broke out the window of a 2007 Ford and stole an Apple iPod music player between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday on the 1100 block of Oak Street.

 

Driving under the Influence

Erica A. Barker, 25, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 3:45 a.m. on Thursday on the 1400 block of South Boulevard. Her court date is set for Jan. 26.

Trespassing

Kenneth C. Sandy, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with trespassing at 3:29 p.m. on Wednesday on the 1600 block of Benson Avenue. His court date is set for Feb. 17.

 

Arrest Warrant

Corey L. Howard, 21, of Evanston was arrested on a pair of warrants at the corner of Golf Road and Tripp Avenue in Skokie at 1:07 a.m. on Dec. 20.


Vandalism

Someone scratched the driver's side of a 1996 Mazda between noon and 3 p.m. on Wednesday on the 500 block of Lee Street.

Driving without a License

Rey M. Ramirez, 19, of Mount Prospect was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:48 a.m. today on the 1800 block of Crain Street. His court date is set for Feb. 9.
