Police Blotter Dec. 5: Woman Spots Burglars in Car; Man Arrested After Purse Snatched

The following arrest information was supplied by the Evanston Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary

A woman saw a pair of burglars in her car through her house window at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday on the 1600 block of McDaniel Avenue. She yelled at them as they entered her silver 2008 Pontiac G6 before chasing them down the street. They ran away with her $30 Apple iPhone car charger. She couldn't make out a description of the culprits other than they were wearing dark hoodies.

Burglars broke through a back door of a house on the 1100 block of Monroe Street and stole ammunition and four boxes of jewelry between 8:20 a.m. and 7:20 p.m. on Friday.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 2004 Jeep and stole cash, an Apple laptop computer, a Garmin GPS device and an Apple iPad tablet computer between 6 p.m. on Friday and 9:15 a.m. on Saturday on the 1600 block of Chancellor Street.

A calculator was stolen from an unlocked 2000 Subaru between 12:15 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. on Friday on the 2600 block of Prairie Avenue.

A satellite radio was stolen from an unlocked 2000 Mazda between 12:15 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. on Friday on the 2600 block of Prairier Avenue.

The screen was pried off an apartment window between 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 29 and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday on the 2000 block of Sherman Avenue, but the burglar was unable to break in.

An unlocked 2009 Toyota was broken into between 1:37 p.m. on Friday and 1:37 p.m. on Satuday on the 2300 block of Payne Street, but nothing was taken.

 

Theft

A man allegedly approached a woman from behind and grabbed her purse at 4:10 p.m. on Thursday on the 700 block of Main Street. Police arrested Vashaun R. Jackson, 22, of Evanston on the 1100 block of Sherman Avenue and charged whim with theft from person. His court date is set for Jan. 5.

A man allegedly stole clothing at 1:05 p.m. from Uncle Dan's Camping & Travel on the 900 block of Church Street. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-10 and 155 pounds. Darion R. Geder, 19, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for Dec. 21.

An Apple laptop computer, a black Apple iPod music player and an Ugg brand wallet went missing from a house on the 1500 block of Asbury Avenue between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Friday.

A yellow, metal Meyer snow plow and blower was reported stolen from someone's lawn at 9:37 a.m. on Thursday on the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue.

A Wii gaming system and an X-Box gaming system were stolen from an apartment through an unlocked door at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 on the 1000 block of Hull Terrace.

A locked silver and light blue 26-inch women's bicycle was found stolen from an apartment common area at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday on the 2200 block of Ridge Avenue.

A locked Bianchi bicycle was stolen off the sidewalk at 3 p.m. on Sunday on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue.

A locked boys' red and black Schwinn bicycle was stolen at 4 p.m. on Saturday on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue.

 

Assault & Battery

Someone was punched and kicked by two unknown men at 2:45 a.m. on Sunday on the 2100 block of Maple Avenue. The suspects are black men, one about 6-foot and 150 pounds, the other about 6-foot-2.

Someone was thrown to the ground and kicked by two people at 4 p.m. on Friday at Foster Park on the 1600 block of Foster Street. The suspects are a black male about 4-foot tall and a black female about 5-foot-4.

A man driving a 1993 BMW threatened a parking enforcer while getting a ticket at 2:35 p.m. on Nov. 28 on the 1800 block of Hovland Court. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-8 and 140 pounds.

A tenant felt threatened by a landlord at 10:28 a.m. on Nov. 28 on the 2300 block of Emerson Street. The suspect is a man about 5-foot-6.

Vandalism

Three windows were broken out of a 1997 Buick between 9 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. on Friday on the 2300 block of Nathaniel Place.

A garage was marked with graffiti between 2 p.m. on Wednesday and 3 p.m. on Friday on the 1800 block of Oakton Street.

A transit mailbox was found marked with graffiti at 9:20 a.m. on Friday on the 800 block of Oakton Street.

Graffiti was found marked on the street at 11:19 p.m. on Friday on the 2300 block of Davis Street.

Obstruction of Justice

Curtis L. Woodall, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice at 1:05 p.m. on Friday on the 900 block of Davis Street. His court date is set for Dec. 21.

Drug Possession

Carl H. Dennison, 29, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance at 10:41 p.m. on the 1400 block of Asbury Avenue on Thursday. His court date is set for this Thursday.

Alfonso Vega, 33, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance at 3:31 p.m. on Friday on the 2100 block of Emerson Street. His court date is set for Dec. 15.

Driving without a License

Rafael Aritzmendi, 25, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:40 p.m. on Thursday on the 1100 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for Jan. 19.

Alexander B. Smith, 29, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:30 p.m. on Friday on the 1300 block of Dobson Street. His court date is set for Feb. 7.

Open Container

Claire Berenblum, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with having an open alcohol container on public property at 1:55 a.m. on Sunday on the 1800 block of Lake Street. Her court date is set for Dec. 16.
