Police Blotter Feb. 17: Thieves Steal Copper Downspouts; Chicago Man Charged with Assault

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Robbery

Danny Wicker, 41, of Chicago was arrested and charged with robbery at 11:55 a.m. on Feb. 15 on the 1100 block of West Thorndale Avenue in Chicago. His court date is set for Feb. 23.

Assault

Ansel W. Graham, 39, of Chicago was arrested and charged with aggravated assault at the Sherwin-Williams store on the 600 block of Howard Street at 12:27 a.m. on Feb. 17. His court date is set for March 28.

Theft

A thief was spotted ripping off the green copper downspouting from a building on the 400 block of Elmwood Avenue on Feb. 10. The man was described as a white or Hispanic man in a black hoodie, parked in a gray pickup truck.

Thieves ripped off thirty feet of copper downspout from a home on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue between 12:01 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Feb. 15.

Marcella R. Miles, 35, of Chicago was arrested and charged with identity theft at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 15 on the 5600 block of Old Orchard Road in Skokie. Her court date is set for March 15.

A wallet was stolen from a purse while it hanged on a chair on the 500 block of Main Street between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Feb. 16.

A purse was stolen from an unlocked office between noon and 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 on the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue.

Burglary

An apartment was broken into between 11 a.m. on Feb. 13 and 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 16 on the 200 block of Custer Avenue. An Xbox and a Nintendo Wii gaming system were stolen, along with games.

The front passenger window of a 1993 Chevrolet was broken out and a black Sony CD player and stereo were stolen between 5 p.m. on Feb. 15 and 6 a.m. on Feb. 16 on the 1100 block of Darrow Avenue. 

A burglar entered an unlocked garage on the 2300 block of Grey Avenue and took a Garmin GPS from a 2006 Honda parked in the garage between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Feb. 13.

Trespassing

A 17-year-old Chicago resident was arrested and charged with trespassing at the Subway restaurant on the 300 block of Howard Street at 5:11 p.m. on Feb. 16.

Domestic Battery 

A 19-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 7:35 p.m. on Feb. 15 on the 2100 block of Cleveland Street. A court date has been set for Feb. 23.

Driving without a License

Philip S. Kostov, 24, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:29 p.m. on Feb. 16 on the 1900 block of Lincoln Street. His court date is set for March 14.

Antoine E. Mack, 33, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:35 a.m. on Feb. 16 at the intersection of Florence Avenue and Monroe Street. His court date is set for March 31.
