Police Blotter July 13: Sunglasses Thief Flees in Lexus; "Water Guy" Steals from Studio

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Theft

A man posing as a Hinckley Water employee stole $12 cash and checks at Imprint Movement Studios on the 1300 block of Sherman Avenue at 2:31 p.m. on July 12. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-8 and medium build in a gray polo shirt. A man who works at the pilates studio called police and told them he spotted a strange man in the studio. When confronted the man said he worked for Hinckley, and a truck was parked out front. The employee spoke with the driver of the water truck who said he did not know the man inside the studio. When that man was confronted about this, he fled from the studio on foot.

A man walked into Visual Eyes Optical Co. on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue and stole two pairs of Armani sunglasses worth $330 total at 3:30 p.m. on July 12. He fled on foot before driving east in a gray 2002 Lexus. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-7 and 200 pounds about 40 years old in a plaid short-sleeved shirt.

A purse was stolen after it was left unattended at a restaurant on the 1600 block of Orrington Avenue at 10:28 a.m. on July 11.

A grill was stolen off a 2004 Volkswagen between 9 p.m. on July 9 and 9 a.m. on July 10 on the 800 block of Hinman Avenue.

A black Schwinn mountain bike was stolen between noon on July 8 and noon on July 11 on the 1500 block of Oak Avenue. The bike had been locked to the back stairs of an apartment building.

A 24-inch mint green bicycle was stolen between 6 p.m. on July 11 and 1:37 p.m. on July 12 on the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue. The bike had been locked to a rack.

A green Giant bicycle tire was stolen between 3:35 p.m. and 6:36 p.m. on July 12 while the bike was locked to a bike rack on the 1000 block of Grove Street.

 

Assault

A man pulled a gun on another man at 10:10 p.m. on July 11 on the 1900 block of Foster Street.

 

Burglary

A burglar entered a house through an unlocked window and stole a white purse with yellow insides between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on July 12 on the 1000 block of Garnett Place.

A burglar used a tool to break open the door of a 2004 Mazda between noon on July 6 and 3 p.m. on July 12 in an alley of the 1200 block of Elmwood Avenue. Nothing was reported missing.

A burglar tried to force open the door to a house on the 600 block of Clinton Place between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 12.

 

Vandalism

A woman reportedly damaged property during a domestic dispute at 4:42 p.m. on July 11 on the 1600 block of Orrington Avenue. A 24-year-old Chicago woman was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property at 5:42 p.m. Her court date is set for Aug. 5.

Gang graffiti was found tagged in a park on the 100 block of Ashland Avenue at 6:12 a.m. on July 12.

Graffiti was found sprayed on the street at 2:54 p.m. on July 8 on the 800 block of Brown Avenue.

 

Domestic Battery

A 46-year-old Bloomington, Ill., resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 9:45 p.m. on July 11 on the 700 block of Dobson Street. A court date is set for July 20.

 

Driving without a License

Stacey L. Alexander, 45, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:10 p.m. on July 12 on the 7500 block of North Clark Street in Chicago. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

Morris A. Foster, 55, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:53 a.m. on July 9 on the 1000 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

Benito Hernandez, 39, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:45 p.m. on July 9 on the 600 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

Angel Pacas, 20, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:40 p.m. on July 9 on the 1200 block of Dempster Street. A court date is set for Aug. 10.

Eliszabeth Perez, 29, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9 p.m. on July 11 on the 1900 block of Dempster Street. Her court date is set for Aug. 12.

Cesar L. Rodriguez, 18, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:21 a.m. on July 13 on the 600 block of Church Street. His court date is set for Aug. 5.

Tryna C. Rosenberg, 27, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:10 a.m. on July 11 on the 2400 block of Howard Street. Her court date is set for Aug. 24.

A 16-year-old Chicago boy was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3 p.m. on July 9 at the intersection of Chicago Avenue and West Juneway Terrace. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

 

Tattooing a Minor

Martin T. Arteaga, 29, of Evanston was arrested and charged with tattooing a minor at 5 p.m. on July 11 on the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 5.

 

Littering

Maurice D. Mayo, 41, of Evanston was arrested and charged with littering at 3:30 p.m. on July 12 on the 1500 block of Darrow Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 2.
