Detectives Charge CTA Janitor with Battery in Chicago

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Battery
Evanston detectives arrested and charged a 72-year-old Chicago man with battery at 5:50 p.m. on July 14 at his home on the 1700 block of West Wallen Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. Police said on June 6, Long was working for the CTA as a janitor at the South Boulevard El station when he got into a dispute with a Securitas guard over the use of the CTA telephone. He allegedly grabbed the phone out of her hand, causing minor injury. His court date is set for July 29.

Theft
Thieves took a patio table and four chairs from a lawn on the 1300 block of Brummel Street between 4:30 p.m. on July 13 and 10 a.m. on July 14. The dining set was worth $100.

A set of lug nuts were stolen off a 2011 Honda between 5:30 p.m. on July 13 and 10:42 a.m. on July 14 on the 700 block of Custer Avenue.
A 21-speed blue Mongoose mountain bike was found stolen at 5:37 p.m. on July 14 on the 600 block of Main Street. Its owner reported that it was locked.
A 18.5-inch silver Bianchi bicycle was reported stolen at 2 p.m. on July 14 on the 2600 block of Ridge Avenue. It had been locked to a bike rack.
A lime green Diamondback bicycle was stolen from someone's lawn at 11:03 a.m. on July 10 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds.
Burglary
Burglars entered a house by slashing a window screen between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on July 14 on the 1800 block of Wesley Avenue. They stole a Dell and a Toshiba laptop computer, a Nook digital reader and a black Coach purse with its contents.
A burglar entered an apartment with a key on the 1600 block of Emerson Street between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on July 12 and stole cash.
Disorderly Conduct
A 13-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 3:35 p.m. on July 14 on the 100 block of Callan Avenue.
