Police Blotter July 20: Burglars Take Purse and Computers; Police Break up Car Wash Employees' Fight

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Assault & Battery

A fight broke out between coworkers at Spex Hand Car Wash & Detailing at 11:34 a.m. on July 19 on the 1200 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspected starter of the fight was a Hispanic male about 5-foot-4 and 150 pounds.

A domestic-related assault allegedly occurred at 8:20 p.m. on July 18 on the 1200 block of Fowler Avenue. A 45-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with assault at 8:30 p.m. on July 18 on the 1200 block of Fowler Avenue.

Burglary

Burglars entered a house through an unlocked window and stole a gray Dell laptop computer and miscellaneous jewelry between 12:30 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. on July 19 on the 2100 block of Asbury Avenue.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 2007 Dodge and stole a silver Dell laptop computer, tools and cash between 3 p.m. on July 18 and 3 p.m. on July 19 on the 1200 block of Chicago Avenue.

A burglar stole a black Samsung camera from an unlocked 2009 Toyota parked at Evanston Gas & Food Shell station on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue at 4:30 a.m. on July 19.

A burglar came into a garage through an open door and stole a silver and blue Schwinn bicycle between 7 p.m. on July 15 and 11 a.m. on July 16 on the 1100 block of Elmwood Avenue.

A burglar broke out a rear window of a 2005 Mazda and stole a black purse between 11:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. at a parking lot on the 1400 block of Sheridan Road.

 

Theft

An apartment building employee allegedly stole cash from an apartment on the 300 block of Dempster Street at 11 a.m. on May 6. The suspect is a white woman about 5-foot-3 and 110 pounds.

A UPS package with personal items was stolen from an apartment building common area between 12:57 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. on July 19 on the 300 block of Dempster Street.

A locked, 26-inch gray hybrid bicycle was stolen between noon on July 15 and 9:35 a.m. on July 18 on the 800 block of Chicago Avenue.

A locked, 26-inch green Trek bicycle was stolen off a rack at the corner of Davis Street and Benson Avenue between 12:45 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. on July 18.

A woman saw two suspected thieves in her yard at 4:13 p.m. on July 19 on the 1400 block of Fowler Avenue. The suspects were juvenile black males, one 5-foot and 90 pounds and one 4-10 and 90 pounds.

 

Vandalism

Someone keyed a 2004 Nissan between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on July 19 on the 800 block of Davis Street.

Someone sprayed silver graffiti on a garage at 10:57 a.m. on July 19 on the 1800 block of Brummel Street.

 

Domestic Battery

A 34-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 9:55 a.m. on July 18 on the 300 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for Aug. 3.

A 15-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 6:12 p.m. on July 19.

 

Arrest Warrant

Juan Montoya, 66, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 2:49 p.m. on July 18 on the 1400 block of Grey Avenue.

 

Driving without a License

Francisco J. Leon-Ramirez, 25, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:15 a.m. on July 18 on the 2000 block of Church Street. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

 

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

David Starling, 53, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 9:30 p.m. on July 18 on the 1600 block of Maple Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 24. Starling was picked up on an outstanding warrant two hours later at 11:50 p.m. on the 500 block of Greenwood Street.

 

Marijuana Possession

Philip A. Igoe, 22, of Chicago was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 6:53 p.m. on July 19 on the corner of Ridge Avenue and Washington Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

 

Illegal Fireworks

A 12-year-old Evanston resident and a 14-year-old Evanston resident were arrested and charged with setting off illegal fireworks at 3:43 p.m. on July 19 on the 700 block of Mulford Avenue.
