Police Blotter July 21: Man Sneaks Juice from Dunkin Donuts; Man Attempts to Take Bike

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

A man tried to take someone's bicycle away from them at 8:03 p.m. on July 20 on the 900 block of Reba Place. The suspect is a black male about 5-foot-8 and 130 pounds.

Burglary

A man climbed into the Dunkin' Donuts counter in the Davis El station at 12:26 a.m. and stole $6 worth of cranberry juice, orange juice and bottled water on July 21. The man was spotted by a CTA security officer who said the man walked out of the station and went west on Church Street. The suspect is a black man in his early 20s about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds who wore a white T-shirt, jean shorts and a blue cap over his dreadlocks.

A Dell desktop computer, a monitor and speakers were stolen from a home business on the 1600 block of Oakton Street between noon and 3 p.m. The computer was last seen by a maintenance person at noon and then was gone by the time another employee showed up at 3 p.m. There was no sign of forced entry.

 

Murder

Ricardo E. Munoz, 35, of Evanston was arrested and charged with murder at 3:22 p.m. on July 17 on the 1200 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 18.

 

Battery

A heavyset man punched someone he knew in the chest at 9:45 p.m. on July 19 on the sidewalk of the 900 block of Davis Street. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-4 and 180 pounds.

 

Theft

A package left in the common area of an apartment building was stolen between June 12 and July 12 on the 1400 block of Oak Avenue. The box contained a Vera Bradley diaper bag, baby clothes and a book.

A picture was stolen from a business on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue at 9:25 p.m. on July 19.

A 17-year-old Chicago resident was arrested and charged with shoplifiting at 7:39 p.m. on July 20 at the Target store on the 2200 block of Howard Street.

A blue and yellow Schwinn bicycle was stolen out of the back of a pickup truck between 11:55 p.m. on July 19 and 11 a.m. on July 20 at the corner of Sherman Avenue and Seward Street.

A locked gray Fuji boys' bicycle was reported stolen at 7:50 a.m. on July 19 on the 600 block of South Boulevard.

A 7-speed GT mountain bike was stolen from an apartment on the 600 block of Custer Avenue at 6:15 p.m. on July 20. The suspect is a black female about 5-foot-6 and 100 pounds.

A silver specialized boys' bicycle was stolen between 10:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. on July 19 on the 1700 block of Benson Avenue.

A bike tire was stolen off a bicycle locked to a rack on the 1000 block of Grove Street at 1:22 p.m. on July 20.

A cell phone was reported stolen from a house on the 1700 block of Brown Avenue at 5 p.m. on July 19.

 

Vandalism

The driver's side of a 2008 Toyota was found keyed at 9 a.m. on July 19 on the 2600 block of Ridge Avenue.

A restaurant was tagged with graffiti between June 20 and July 20 on the 700 block of Chicago Avenue.

 

Domestic Battery

A 39-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 1 a.m. on July 20 on the 1700 block of Grey Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 3.

 

Marijuana Possession

John F. Donado, 29, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 6:27 p.m. on July 20 on the 600 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Sept. 2.

 

Driving without a License

Dwight H. Clue, 39, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:11 p.m. on July 20 on the 1900 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

Phabion A. Harshaw, 23, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:30 a.m. on July 19 at the intersection of South Boulevard and Forest Avenue. Her court date is set for Sept. 8.

Otto J. Roeser, 39, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7:50 a.m. on July 19 on the 500 block of Sheridan Road. His court date is set for Sept. 8.

 

Shots Fired/Man with Gun

A man about 5-foot-8 was seen with a gun at 10:19 a.m. on July 20 at the corner of Hull Terrace and Custer Avenue.

Two gun shots were heard at 1:30 a.m. on July 10 on the 1200 block of Leonard Place.

A gun shot was heard at 9:41 p.m. on July 20 on the 1700 block of Greenwood Street.
