Police Blotter July 26: Tenant Charged with Smashing Door; Girl Strikes Police Officer

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Battery

Police were called to investigate a youth disturbance at 4:50 p.m. on July 25 on the 600 block of Asbury Avenue, when a 17-year-old girl struck one of the officers on the arm. She had become upset at the officers and lashed out at them as the argument escalated. She was not charged.

Vandalism

A tenant was arrested on Monday for allegedly damaging a door in his former apartment building on the 1100 block of Dewey Avenue on June 5. Trenell J. Kirkman, 22, of Evanston was charged with criminal damage to property at 8:50 a.m. on July 25 on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 6.

Someone broke out a window on a vacant property on the 700 block of Chicago Avenue at 6:59 a.m. on July 25.

A garage was marked up with black spray paint between 6 p.m. on July 24 and 4:21 p.m. on July 25 on the 2600 block of Poplar Avenue.

A post office box was tagged with graffiti at 7:07 p.m. on July 25 on the 500 block of Sherman Avenue.

 

Burglary

A burglar slashed the screen of an open window to a house on the 900 block of Madison Street between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. on July 25. An Apple laptop computer, a Fossil watch, and a black leather wallet were stolen.

Two women allegedly used a key to steal cash from a business on the 1700 block of Central Street at 10 a.m. on July 23. The suspects are black women, one of whom was 5-foot-9 and 140 pounds.

A burglar broke into a 2007 Toyota and stole a Kodak camera at 7 p.m. on July 24 on the 2300 block of Sherman Avenue.

A burglar broke into a garage through an unlocked door and stole a silver specialized Range bicycle and a blue specialized Myka bicycle at 8:30 p.m. on July 22 on the 1300 block of Livingston Street.

Someone used a key to break into a business on the 1700 block of Central Street between 10 a.m. on July 24 and 8:20 a.m. on July 25, but nothing was taken.

 

Theft

Three men allegedly stole clothing from a store on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue at 3:30 p.m. on July 24. Sean A. Harris, 19, of Chicago; Kendall K. Johnson, 18, of Evanston and Deonta M. Nelson, 19, of Chicago were arrested and charged with retail theft on the 900 block of Davis Street. Their court date is set for Aug. 31.

A silver and black Dell laptop computer was stolen from a business on the 600 block of Davis Street between 1:15 p.m. and 2 p.m. on July 25 on the 600 block of Davis Street.

A man was seen stealing a wood pallet and putting it into his 1996 Dodge Ram pickup truck at 11 a.m. on July 25 in the parking lot of Target on the 2200 block of Howard Street. The suspect is a white man about 6-foot tall and 200 pounds.

Two men stole a number of items from a table at Mason Park at 4:40 p.m. on July 25 on the 1700 block of Church Street. The items included a beige wallet with $90, a black Apple iPod music player and a guitar, which was later recovered.

A man allegedly stole a green Rally bicycle from the park outside the Robert Crown Center on the 1700 block of Main Street between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on July 25. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot tall and 150 pounds.

A locked maroon Cannondale H500 bicycle was stolen from an alley of the 1000 block of Davis Street between 11 p.m. on July 24 and 9 a.m. on July 25.

A locked blue hybrid bicycle was stolen between July 9 and July 18 from an alley of the 1000 block of Davis Street.

A locked purple and blue Trek 5900 bicycle was stolen from an alley of the 1000 block of Davis Street on July 18.

Two men stole a blue 24-speed Fuji bicycle that was locked to a parking meter at 4:07 p.m. on July 25 on the corner of Orrington Avenue and Church Street.

A purple Huffy bicycle was stolen from an apartment common area between 6:30 a.m. and 9:09 p.m. on July 25 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue.

A baby blue Schwinn bicycle was stolen from an apartment common area at 3 p.m. on July 25 on the 2100 block of Dewey Avenue.

An unlocked blue mountain bike was stolen from an apartment common area at 7:30 a.m. on July 22 on the 1900 block of Wesley Avenue.

An unlocked blue Raleigh M20 mountain bike was stolen from an apartment common area at 7 p.m. on July 24 on the 800 block of Crain Street.

An unlocked black Cannondale bicycle was stolen out of a lawn at 6 p.m. on July 22 on the 1200 block of Judson Avenue.

 

Disorderly Conduct

Ahgah A. Kirkman-Bey, 19, of Chicago was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 8:55 p.m. on July 25 on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue. Elizabeth A. Granberry, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disobedience to police in the same incident. Their court date is set for Aug. 19.

 

Protection Order Violation

Shana E. Eisenstein, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with violating an order of protection at 10:07 p.m. on July 23 on the 1800 block of Monroe Street. Her court date is set for July 27.

 

Domestic Battery

A 37-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 1:30 a.m. on July 25 on the 1700 block of Hartrey Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 3.

A 23-year-old Chicago man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 8:31 p.m. on July 22 at St. Francis Hospital on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue.

 

Arrest Warrant

Laouratou B. Balde, 27, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 3:26 p.m. on July 24 at the Evanston Police Station.

Duwayne S. Moss, 20, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 10:40 p.m. on July 20 on the 600 block of Brummel Street.

 

Marijuana Possession

Bruce D. Hawk, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with marijuana possession at 2:10 a.m. on July 25 on the 100 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

 

Driving without a License

Jose O. DeLeon, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:12 p.m. on July 23 at the corner of McCormick Boulevard and Oakton Street in Skokie. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

Juan Velazquez, 41, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:20 p.m. on July 22 on the 7600 block of North Sheridan Road in Chicago. His court date is set for Aug. 12.
