Police Blotter July 27: Tea Theft Leads to Needle Bust; Wallet Swiped from Stroller

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Theft

A man allegedly stole a bottle of Arizona green tea from the CVS/pharmacy at 3:44 p.m. on July 26 on the 100 block of Asbury Avenue. Curtis T. Wilson, 29, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. When police searched him, they allegedly found eight hypodermic needles like those used to inject heroin. He was then charged with felony possession of hypodermic needles. His court date is set for Sept. 8.

A wallet, $50 cash, and a Blackberry cell phone were stolen from a stroller at James Park on the corner of Oakton Street and Dodge Avenue between 1:30 p.m. and 2:50 p.m. on July 26. Police said a mother was out with her child when she took her eyes off the baby buggy.

A locked black and beige Raleigh SC30 bicycle was reported stolen from a bike rack at 8 p.m. on July 26 on the 600 block of Lake Street.

A locked 26-inch gray men's Schwinn bicycle was reported stolen from a bike rack at 7 p.m. on July 27 on the 1300 block of Sherman Place.

A locked blue and yellow Huffy bicycle was stolen from an apartment common area between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on July 27 on the 400 block of South Boulevard.

An unlocked orange and black Mongoose Hoop D bicycle was stolen from someone's lawn at 2:30 p.m. on July 27 on the 2000 block of Church Street. The suspect is a Hispanic man about 5-foot-7 and 145 pounds.

A boy allegedly stole an orange Huffy bicycle from a park on the 700 block of Reba Place on July 26. The suspect is a black male about 4-foot-9 and 65 pounds.

 

Assault

Someone made a verbal threat on the sidewalk at 7 p.m. on July 27 on the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue.

 

Burglary

A 14-year-old Evanston resident and a 15-year-old Evanston resident were arrested and charged with burglary to auto at 8:19 p.m. on July 27 on the 1700 block of Hovland Court.

A man cut through a screen to open a bedroom window of a house on the 1400 block of Emerson Street between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on July 26. the burglar stole a Dell laptop computer, a Nintendo Wii gaming system and a PlayStation.

A burglar entered an unlocked garage on the 2200 block of Asbury Avenue and stole a silver Cannondale women's bicycle between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 26.

An unlocked 2010 Subaru was burglarized betwween 5:30 p.m. on July 26 and 7:30 a.m. on July 27 on the 2400 block of Brown Avenue. Nothing was reported stolen.

 

Vandalism

Someone scratched the bumper of a 2008 Toyota between 2 p.m. on July 25 and 7:30 a.m. on July 26.

Someone wrote graffiti on a traffic signal at 5:50 p.m. on July 27 on the 800 block of Mulford Street.

 

Driving without a License

Jaime Martinez-Marin, 22, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:08 p.m. on July 26 on the 200 block of Dodge Street. His court date is set for Sept. 15.

Sean P. Quintenz, 33, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:29 p.m. on July 27 on the 1900 block of Harrison Street. His court date is set for Sept. 8.
