Police Blotter July 5: Man Robbed Outside ATM in Broad Daylight; Man Charged with Two Target Thefts

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

A man was robbed after he took $200 out from a Chase ATM on the 1900 block of Central Street at 2 p.m. on July 3. Police said he walked away from the ATM when he was jumped by five men in their 20s. Once on the ground, they reached into his front pants pocket and stole the money before running away. The victim went to Evanston North Shore hospital for minor injuries.

Theft

A man reportedly stole sunglasses, a bra, and computer software from Target on the 2200 block of Howard Street at 3:50 p.m. on June 30. Jamie L. Kremel, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with retail theft. He was detained by security and did not resist, police said. After a review of the Target security cameras, Kremel was charged with an additional count of retail theft at 9 p.m. at the Evanston Police Station. Police said Kremel had stolen a Belkin USB and a Blackberry case at Target on June 28. The total value of all the items was $144.

Two men allegedly stole liquor from the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 2400 block of Howard Street at 11:42 p.m. on July 3. Denorsic M. Conley 19, of Chicago and Patrick D. Howard, 18, of Chicago were arrested and charged with retail theft. Their court date is set for Aug. 5.

Fernando Robles, 37, of Chicago was arrested and charged with theft of lost or mislaid property at noon on July 4 at the Evanston Police Station. His court date is set for Aug. 5.

Two men allegedly stole Seagram's liquor from the Food 4 Less on the 2400 block of Main Street at 8:32 p.m. on July 2. The suspects are black men about 5-foot-7.

Someone stole the light bulb from a light fixture on someone's porch between 10 p.m. on July 3 and 10 a.m. on July 4 on the 400 block of Florence Avenue.

A box containing sunglasses and other personal items was delivered to a building on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on July 16, but the rightful owner never found the package.

Weights, workout equipment and personal items were left unattended in a parking spot in a lot on the 1700 block of Maple Avenue when they were stolen between 7:45 a.m. and 9 p.m. on July 1.

A Louis Vuitton wallet was stolen out of a purse at a restaurant on the 1700 block of Benson Avenue at 8:30 p.m. on June 3.

A man reportedly stole something from the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 8:19 a.m. on July 28. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds.

A woman known to the victim allegedly stole a GE microwave and an air conditioner from a garage on the 1500 block of McDaniel Avenue at 7:24 p.m. on July 3.

A woman known to the victim allegedly stole a necklace, charm jewelry and cash between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on June 19 on the 1800 block of Church Street.

A silver Electra Ego Helo Cycle bicycle was stolen as it was parked on a garage pad between 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on July 3.

A red, 26-inch REI Novara Metro bicycle was locked up at the El station on the 1000 block of Central Street when it was found stolen at 5 p.m. on June 28.

A 20-inch brown Magna bicycle was left unattended and stolen from someone's lawn on the 1800 block of Leland Avenue at 1:15 p.m. on July 4.

A Samsung cell phone was reported stolen from a chain business on the 300 block of Howard Street at 10:40 a.m. on July 4. The suspect is a 5-foot-2 black male.

 

Assault & Battery

A man allegedly hit someone in the face on the sidewalk at the corner of Dodge Avenue and Church Street at 2 p.m. on July 1. Bryce R. Lones, 22, of Skokie was arrested and charged with battery at his home on the 9300 block of Bennett Street in Skokie. His court date is set for Aug. 3.

A man allegedly punched someone in the chest at 10:45 a.m. on July 3 at the Century Cinemas theater on the 1700 block of Maple Avenue. Christian D. Olaiya, 21, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery at 11 a.m. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

An argument broke out between neighbors between 6 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. on July 1 on the 600 block of Sherman Avenue.

A man threatened someone in a lawn on the 2700 block of Hartzell Street at 4:25 p.m. on July 4. The suspect is a white man about 6-foot and 180 pounds.

A 15-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with battery at 10:18 a.m. on July 4 at the Burger King on the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue.

 

Burglary

A burglar broke out a passenger window on a 2007 Toyota and stole a Garmin GPS device, a pink and purple purse, cash and an Apple iPod music player between 6:45 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on July 4 on the 2600 block of Ridge Avenue.

A black MacBook Pro laptop computer, a silver laptop computer, a Canon G11 camera, passports and a bag of personal items were reported stolen from a hotel room at the Best Western University Plaza hotel between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on July 2 on the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue. The theft was domestic related.

A burglar broke into a house on the 1100 block of Asbury Avenue through an unlocked window and stole jewelry between 2 p.m. on July 1 and 3:05 p.m. on July 3.

A burglar broke out an unlocked window to a 2001 Chevrolet and stole studio equipment between 7 p.m. on July 2 and 3 p.m. on July 4 on the 200 block of Ridge Avenue.

Burglars stole a brown motorized scooter, two brown Schwinn mountain bikes, a Toro lawn mower and a Toro snow blower from an unlocked storage shed on the 2200 block of Emerson Street between noon on July 1 and 4:15 p.m. on July 2.

A burglar stole an Asus laptop computer out of an unlocked 1999 Chevrolet parked in a municipal parking lot on the 1800 block of Sheridan Road at 3 p.m. on July 4.

Cash was stolen from an unlocked 2011 Honda between 6 p.m. on July 1 and 8:30 a.m. on July 2 on the 600 block of Mulford Street.

Burglars entered an unlocked garage and stole a child-size Trek MT60 bicycle, a blue Trek 7500 bicycle and a gray Trek 7300 bicycle between 2 p.m. on July 3 and 4:07 p.m. on July 4 on the 1000 block of Forest Avenue.

Someone entered a garage through an unlocked door between 12:01 a.m. and 1 p.m. on July 3 and stole a Trek 1000 bicycle on the 800 block of Sheridan Road.

A burglar went into an unlocked garage on the 2100 block of Lincolnwood Drive and stole a Giant Escape 2 bicycle between 10 a.m. on June 29 and 2:22 p.m. on July 3.

A burglar forced open the back door of a house on the 1100 block of Asbury Avenue at 3:25 p.m. on July 3. Nothing was reported missing.

 

Vandalism

An apartment window was allegedly broken out at 5:07 a.m. on July 4 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue. Virgil Massie, 59, of Evanston was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property at 5:07 a.m. on July 4 on the 2000 block of Brown Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

Someone knocked over a blue U.S. Postal Service box on the 800 block of Oakton Street at 10:45 a.m. on July 1.

Someone broke the rear window of a 1994 Toyota between 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. on July 1 on the 900 block of Sherman Avenue.

The rear window of a 2007 Toyota was broken out between 12:01 a.m. on July 2 and 9:45 a.m. on July 3 as the car was parked in a parking lot on the 1100 block of Church Street.

Kingsley Elementary School was tagged with black graffiti at 2:03 p.m. on July 3 on the 2300 block of Green Bay Road.

Someone tagged a yellow traffic control device with a purple marker at 10:08 a.m. on July 4 on the corner of Oak Avenue and Crain Street.

Someone sprayed graffiti on the railroad right-of-way on the 800 block of Main Street at 10:31 a.m. on July 4.

Blue graffiti was spray-painted in a yard on the 1000 block of Seward Street between June 25 and July 1.

Black spray paint was drawn on a lawn on the 2300 block of Prairie Avenue between 10 p.m. on July 1 and 9 a.m. on July 2.

Black graffiti was sprayed on the retaining wall on the 2200 block of Green Bay Road at 8:30 a.m. on July 4.

 

Disorderly Conduct

Mark A. Lindeman, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 4:26 p.m. on July 4 at the corner of Central Street and McCormick Boulevard. A 17-year-old Skokie resident involved in the same incident was also arrested and charged with violating an order of protection at 4:30 p.m. The court date for Lindeman is set for July 19.

 

Obstruction of Justice

Tatianna S. Allen, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice at 4:05 p.m. on June 30 on the 800 block of Howard Street. Upon her arrest, Allen was also charged with an outstanding warrant. Her court date is set for Aug. 5.

Ira Ayes, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice at 1:55 a.m. on July 2 on the 1500 block of Howard Street. Ayes also had a warrant out for his arrest. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

 

Domestic Battery

A 26-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 1:34 p.m. on July 1 on the 1200 block of Dodge Avenue. A court date is set for July 6.

A 19-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 3:49 p.m. on July 2 on the 900 block of Foster Street. Her court date is set for July 13.

 

Protection Order

Reginal D. Stewart, 43, of Evanston was arrested and charged with violating a court order of protection at 9:54 p.m. on June 30 on the 2100 block of Emerson Street.

Tracy S. Williams, 36, of Evanston was arrested and charged with violating a court order of protection at 11 p.m. on July 3 on the 1800 block of Dodge Avenue. Her court date is set for Aug. 5.

 

Public Nudity

Marc A. Jenkins, 39, of Evanston was arrested and charged with public nudity at 10:49 p.m. on July 1 on the 400 block of Asbury Avenue. His court date is set for July 19.

 

Arrest Warrant

Darrell B. Ballard, 49, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 5:19 p.m. on July 1 on the 1800 block of Church Street.

Ismael Mozo, 24, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 9:30 a.m. on July 1 on the 1400 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Aug. 5.

Corteze D. Reed, 20, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 10:30 p.m. on July 1 on the 1300 block of Oakton Street.

James L. Robinson, 48, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 1:42 a.m. on July 3 on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue.

Christopher M. Tuft, 29, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 6:45 p.m. on June 30 on the 7500 block of North Western Avenue in Chicago.

Lioara Wixson, 52, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at noon on June 30 on the 300 block of Chicago Avenue.

 

Driving under the Influence

Baltimore H. Yates, 19, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 2:04 a.m. on July 2 at the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Mulford Street. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

 

Drug Possession

Terry Williams, 48, of Evanston was arrested and charged with drug possession at 8:50 p.m. on July 2 on the 800 block of Clark Street. His court date is set for July 18.

 

Shots Fired

A gun shot was reported in the vicinity of Crain Street and Florence Avenue at 12:22 a.m. on July 1.

 

Trespassing

Dominick I. Benjamin, 25, of Zion and Alvin M. Edwards, 24, of Zion were arrested and charged with being at the park after hours at 12:36 a.m. on July 4 on the 700 block of Reba Place. His court date is set for Aug. 19.

 

Marijuana Possession

Kejuan K. Little, 21 of Skokie was arrested and charged with marijuana possession at 11:02 p.m. on June 30 on the 2100 block of Emerson Street. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

Faviea E. Thompson, 43, of Evanston was arrested and charged with marijuana possession at 10:49 p.m. on July 1 on the 400 block of Asbury Avenue. Her court date is set for July 19.

 

Driving without a License

Gregory C. Edwards, 59, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:18 a.m. on July 4 on the 1100 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for July 22.

Adela Esquivel, 33, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 1:05 a.m. on July 2 at the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Mulford Street. Her court date is set for Aug. 12.

DeWayne A. Gary, 30, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:50 p.m. on July 4 on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for Aug 5.

Marcell A. Gill, 25, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:30 p.m. on July 3 on the 800 block of Wesley Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

Ranulfo Gomez-Patino, 40, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:40 a.m. on July 4 on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

Ebenezer F. Graham, 30, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:25 p.m. on July 2 on the 7500 block of North Ridge Boulevard. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

Ryan E. Miles, 33, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:45 p.m. on July 1 on the 1600 block of Crain Street. His court date is set for July 29.

Kurt A. Pfotenhauer, 36, of South Elgin was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:14 p.m. on June 30 on the 1000 block of Lake Street. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

Alejandro Salgado, 26, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:25 p.m. on July 2 at the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Mulford Street. His court date is set for Aug. 12.

Edward A. Sanchez, 38, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:15 a.m. on July 2 on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for July 22.

Fernando Velazquez, 53, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9 a.m. on June 29 on the 1000 block of Austin Avenue. His court date is set for July 22.

 

Underage Possession

A 15-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol at 6:08 p.m. on July 3 on the 700 block of Dobson Avenue.
